4.0L SOHC REAR CHAIN LOOK RIGHT?

I did a valve cover gasket a week ago, seen a picture of a rear cassette broken. I looked back at this photo and found that chain is riding that little peg looks like? Chain had no slack and I thought nothing of it at the time. Is this worst case scenario?

No it doesn't. Here's what it should look like with the guide around that bolt. At least part of your guide is in your oil pan

Ya know @JJMaine ... i ment to summons you to this post... being you were just doing this on your truck. But... in typical old guy fashion I forgot to do it.

I thought there was a guide that hung from that bolt but was hoping you could verify.

Thanks! Trying to pay it forward when I can. And to think a year ago, I was nervous about changing my fuel pump and that quickly escalated into being confident I can take my engine out, tear it down, put it back together and back in the truck lol.

Did guides and finished a while ago, might as well update this, what a pain in the ass job. Truck works good now

You guys think there would be enough clearance to do the timing chains in the truck if the transmission was removed?

My brothers ‘03 needs the transmission rebuilt and the guides replaced. Thinking of pulling the transmission for a rebuild and attempting to do the timing chains from the bottom.

Any thoughts about clearance? Do you need a lot of room?

I think (but don't quote me on this lol) that the only issue with doing them in the truck is getting to the rear guide bolt that is behind the transmission/flex plate and the jackshaft bolt if your doing chains as well as guides. Not that it would be super easy but I believe I've read about people doing it.

In my mind, with the transmission removed it would be totally possible but I'll let someone with more experience confirm that.
