Anybody have any clue why my evap canister is leaking ATF every time I go on the highway? I had a front end crunch on the passenger side and I deleted ac, swapped my cooling system for an aluminum rad with an e-fan, and got new headlights. Now, besides a very very small leak from the trans cooler where is goes into the rad, I have a pretty substantial leak from my evap canister behind the driver headlight. Noticed one of the hoses was off after the first test drive, put it back on, but it kept leaking. I can grab pictures after work tonight. 91 xlt 4.0 4wd auto. doesnt seem to drive any differently than it did before it leaked.

Only way I can think for atf to get to the evap canister would be through a vacuum leak IF the transmission uses vacuum for shifting something. I'm not an automatic transmission expert though.

HOWEVER. Are you SURE it's ATF from the transmission? In that area, it is very easy to get power steering fluid spilled. And most of these trucks use ATF for power steering fluid. If the power steering reservoir is really full and you turn the steering wheel with the engine off, it will squirt fluid out the vent hole in the cap, sometimes even pushing the cap loose.

SO
I couldnt exactly tell what fluid it was, but it was red like atf and didnt taste sweet like coolant at all. I am also certain it isnt power steering because I am extremely familiar with what is going on with my steering system seeing as how leaky it is.
I just got back and went to check the area one more time, and as I was thinking about I realized i am incredibly stupid and its just my cut ac line purging out the last of my refrigerant from the delete since i didnt get all of it. Sorry :/

As long as the mystery is solved. Good job.
