Anyone know how to remove this piece or if it can be removed? Before I go reefing on it with channel locks I want to confirm if it simply unscrews or not. Cant find the part online at all. Looking to refresh this intake for a short block build. Truck is an 87 Ranger XLT 4x4, 2.9L engine, which is what is going back in.
Thanks :D

Theoretically it should just be a nipple screwed in there…

I‘ve never tried to remove one on anything but a 98 Explorer 5.0 which I knew for a fact screwed in. It was also a whole assembly thing that held a temp sensor and had steel heater lines attached and was all badly rusted. I used some pipe thread and AN fittings to rebuild it. I’ve always just worked around it on my other rigs.

I'll try and remove it with vice grips on my next day off. Theres a 1" ish long portion on the inside thats pretty scaley with rust, hopefully wont be too big an issue amd will just unscrew.

Maybe use some heat and penetrating oil

She's stuck good. Will have to let it soak a while longer :stirthepot: tube on this one is obviously steel, one on my old engine is brass. Wtf Ford??

Kay. I finally popped it loose and IT DOES NOT HAVE THREADS in any form, just free spins and is likely either a press fit with sealant or cast into the manifold. Hopefully the former. Standby, going to be a bit before I can do a repair writeup. I will probably cut it with a hacksaw or dremel cut off and go from there, drill out, remove remains, final size drill/ream, then tap for an NPT or some kind of hose nipple that will work.

Interesting…

Interesting…
So. . . My bad; first of all.

This intake is not from my vehicle, which I should've said in the initial post. In reading around here, I discovered its a later 90s intake casting with more pronounced intake runners, and overall a thicker casting(Which is a good find, I guess?). Handy as I wanted to try my hand at a port, polish and gasket match job. So maybe the old one's coolant nipple is threaded in place? I'm reading up on the 2.9s and didn't have that tid bit when I posted. I have an idea to see if it is a press fit. I will put a bolt through the nipple to the bottom, through a backwards flange nut with a wrench on it, and tigten the bolt to try and pull the nipple out screw jack style. That'll have to wait till next I work on it though. I gotta give my IH habbit some attention next week instead of this project :/
