Hello, I’m doing a 302 swap from a 95 f150 into a 96 Ford Ranger 3.0 and I just wanna know if anyone has done this. I know the mustang and the explorer are the most popular but I’m getting a sweet deal on a f150 with a 5.0 and an M50D-R2. I just wanna know who’s done it and what I need to expect doing is from an f150. I’m new to the forums so if I did something wrong don’t be mad. Thanks!!

You planning on staying fuel injected or going carb?

Since both vehicles are EFI I wouldn't even consider a carb as a second option.

The F-150 intake and oil pan will cause you some headaches.

Ya it’s gonna be efi and I have the twin traction beams 4x4 on the ranger and I think the f150 has the rear sump pan on it. Any other tips or suggestions?

You will want to read the swap articles here:

http://www.therangerstation.com/how-to/engines-fuel-systems/

If you crawl under your truck and find the huge crossmember that seems to hold everything together (frame rails, front suspension, engine...)

Your huge rear sump F-150 oil pan will want to go where that crossmember is. That is a problem. Most guys run a dual sump pan off of a Mustang or other 80's/90's car (you will have to change the pickup and a main cap bolt too) I recommend moving the rear drain to the other side of the pan so it doesn't dump on your pivot bracket.

I would also recommend using the V6 mounts with plates rather than the convertible engine mounts too.

Hey, first post here. I have a 94, and looking to drop in a 302 from (probably) an f-150. I will carb it. If I understand correctly from the "V-8 Engine Conversions - '83-'97 Ford Rangers & '84-'90 Ford Bronco II" article, I can use my stock transmission. Is that correct. Also, it only mentions the double sump pan if using a 351W. Is the 94 going to have the same crossmember problem as the 96?
