Rangebe...version 2.0

I say 5.13s due to the pinion size of the 5.38's. I wouldnt be able to justify a slight increase in torque for how much weaker the 5.38 pinion is.

PROGRESS!

Need to get my headers to confirm fitment, then Ill finalize mounts. Also, looks like Ill be able to use the stock shifter :D will need a bit of a cut/weld, but should work out fine.

thanks man. I may need to bug you with some questions when it comes to getting this things running.

Started making my motor mounts, but I cant finish them until I get my headers and finalize engine placement. Ordered Hedman 88400 headers.

Got my Hedman 88400 headers in the mail today; they have 1 1/2" primaries and 2 1/2" collectors. They were 163$ from Summit.

Old vs new:

Drivers (note old one was cut to fit into engine bay initally)

Installed...the Hedman 88400 passenger side goes up and over the starter, and has tons of room for the exhaust.

Drivers, note how much room I have between the header and steering box, with the original header, I had to cut the number 1 cylinder tube in order to set the motor down.

Once the motor was back in, bolted up the transfer case. That fawker is big! Here you can see where I notched the frame slightly, and removed a boss on the case. These still need to be finished/smoothed. This pic is before final placement.

And angled, you can see how nice and tight to the body the case sits, and doesnt hang but an inch or two below the frame. The red tape was checking for driveshaft clearances (Ill have lots of room).

Decided to play with the shifters. These are in the stock location. All I need to do is heat/bend the tcase shifter a bit to get it in a better position, and cut/weld the tranny shifter. Even as they sit however, you can shift into all gears/ranges.

Now for the crappy news. When I pulled the stock headers I found ROCKS in the exhaust port of the passenger side head. I know the crank has been turned, so more than likely those valves/head are fooked. I have next week off, so once I finish motor mounts Ill pull the heads and bring them back to the junkyard and hope theyll exchange them for different ones.

Peace.

ROCKS? Wow, that's gay. Looking good though, keep it up! :headbang:

man that sucks. reminds me of the motor i got years ago that once i pulled the valve covers everything was so sludged up it was barely worth doing anything with. took hours upon hours to clean and then found out the block was cracked.

Im not concerned about the engine...I called the junkyard and theyre going to give me another motor in addition to this one. Ill swap the good heads onto this engine and then rebuild it. Ill use the spare block to start building a stroker motor for the future....

Made and finalized motor mounts tonight.

Then tore the engine/tranny/tcase out. I can have that tranny/engine in and out within a matter of minutes now lol.

Engine setup on stand. Going to tear the heads off of it tomorrow then go grab that new engine.

If your gonna swap heads, get some GT40 heads off an early 5.0 explorer. Might as well
