Rangebe...version 2.0

Haha thanks man. Yeah you should see what I can do with a dental drill and scalpel :D

Got the engine tore down, the internals of the engine are in IMPRESSIVELY good condition. All the bearings are intact, no scratches and smooth.

The cylinder walls still have the factory honing, Im super happy with the block.

So last night I tore the motor and tranny out, and tore down the motor today. I also went back to the junkyard today and they gave me another motor. So....I used the second motor as a mock up engine, while I build the other one on the side :D

After the teardown of the other motor, I put this one with the tranny back into the truck. Ill pick up materials tomorrow maybe, and get started on the tranny cross member.

With engine in place, and tranny/tcase where I want it, it was time to make a cross member, well at least part of it.

First made up a driveshaft from parts I had kicking around, to check clearances and ensure no binding.

full bump

almost drooped

Ive got good clearance everywhere, no bind, and well out of the way of the frame.

Next made tabs for the cross member on the radius arm brackets.

Made the center portion that bolts to the tranny mount

IMG-20120815-00219-1.jpg

After much messing around with angles, figured out what I wanted, and made it.

In place.

Now with that made, I need to address the transfer case. I dont like the idea of the whole weight of the case leveraging off of the extension housing. Im going to fab a mount off of the back of the case, and connect it to another cross member. The 2 cross members will be adjoined (but removable separately). More to come tomorrow.

Oh, and for the record, I had no issues fitting the BW1356/M5OD-R2 in my rig, went in without a hitch.

Looking good, u do some very fine fab work!! Dont think i have read it yet , but are u doing coilovers or coils?

2.5 16 or 14" travel remote reservoir coilovers, not sure what brand yet.

Might I interest you in my 14" 2.5" Fox air shocks?

thanks Andrew, but no thanks :) Any chance you have a spare 37x12.5R17 tire or two kicking around? I need spares

I may have a line or two on some for spares (not much tread) and plum, you have a PM.

yeah I really dont care how much tread as long as there is something there (not bald).

Made up this cross member for the t-case.

IMG-20120818-00226.jpg

Then made a support bracket to bolt to the tcase. Note the silly cardboard template, this is pretty much how I make everything :icon_thumby:

IMG-20120819-00228.jpg

Bolted to t-case.

IMG-20120819-00230.jpg

And welded in cross member brackets, bolted it in.

IMG-20120819-00229.jpg

Then cut and welded a bushing for the mount.

IMG-20120819-00231.jpg

Thats as far as I got tonight. I need to run a support beam between the cross members (parallel to frame). The support beam will unbolt at the tranny cross member.

Peace.

Awesome build, dude. So much custom fabrication... it's barely even Ford, anymore, hehe. Looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks man.

Got a little done. Made the adjoining beam, then split it and capped the segments, and drilled holes.

IMG-20120820-00232.jpg

And here it is bolted together. I need the piece to be modular, as I want to be able to remove either cross member individually.

IMG-20120820-00233.jpg

And tacked in place. Need to take down both cross members and fully weld it in, then make the tabs to bolt to the tcase bracket.

Cheers.
