Question about differences in 4.0L

Bit of an update and some more questions here
I cannot remember if I said this already but, when it had the 2.3L it had an ECU from another Ranger. I just remembered this from when I had to get it emissions tested years ago and the ECU VIN was different. I don't remember the VIN off the top of my head so that leads me to my question.

I've found a junked 2004 4.0 Ranger that's a stick and 2wd. The ECU seems to already be gone but can I use that VIN to order a new ECU and have that work with the 2001 engine in a 2006 chassis?

Umm, still kinda needing an answer to this. If a 2004 won't work, will a 2008? I do need an answer today at best, tomorrow at the latest as I need to order this ECU to get this shop to actually start working on my Ranger

I can't help, but try starting a separate thread for your question. It'll probably get more views.
Good luck.

I always hate starting new threads as I've started, IMO, too many trying to get this bloody engine to run. But yeah, probably my best bet
