question about clutches

mobil 1 bottle says can be used in all auto or manuals calling for atf4,mercon,dextron 3 or mercon5 and many foreign trans. thats whats in it and thats whats staying in it, I"m not changing it again.:icon_thumby:
 
then thats good, dont want to put something in there that doesnt fit requirements. ill look for that next time i do a change and see how much better it does temperature wise.
 
ok you guys convinced me, I took out the oil and put in mobil1 syn. trans fluid, today was in the low 40"s, trans shifts good at these temps. that should last the life of this trans? or the clutch LOL.

Should have left the mobil1 in it. I run mobil 1 5W-30 in my twin turbo mustang's T5. With ATF I got ~3 months out of a T5 and with Mobil 1 I'm coming up on a yr, hell it's the only way to keep em together.

Anyways, back on topic the ranger I just picked up had 178k on the original clutch (disc/pressure plate looked fine but throwout bearing went south), and on my old F150 I got ~220k out of the original clutch(shattered it going for third into a brakestand). So I would say that your clutch probably has some life left in it (assuming the previous owner knew how to drive a stick).

thats a t5 tranny not a toyo kogyo m50d, big dif in tranny design.

The point I was trying to make was that the Mobil 1 Synthetic has far better lubricious qualities, and would not have caused any issues being left in that trans. The only noticeable change that would likely be seen would be during initial shifts on cold morning (due to the different viscous qualities of the two fluids).

There's a reason race cars use this stuff in there trannis...

Dang, you get a stock T5 to hold up to twin turbo's? Mine barely held up to what I have before I had to get it rebuilt. It wasn't exactly in the greatest of shape when I got it but still..lol.

On topic, the one in my truck went at about 212k miles, not sure if it was original or not, but the reason it went was because of the rear main seal leaking oil on the clutch disc. I know someone who went 240k miles on the stock clutch before the throwout bearing came apart. I say if the pedal feels good and it doesn't slip then you're ok for a while.

Yea the T5 is bone stock out of a 92 GT. I don't drive the car much, but when I do I beat the crap out of it. When this one blows up I think I'm gonna put an auto w/ a trans brake into it, and see how high it'll hang the tires.
