Proper install order.

Lol you gotta take the boot off, inside the boot is the nut, on the nut is a locking pin. (Like a cotter pin).

You gotta remove the pin then turn the nut not the rod. :icon_thumby:

Did you loosen the locknut from the adjusting collar?

By the way, some of the threads in these assemblies are left-hand threads.

Go with what Dirtman said.

Upper control arm in but not all the way yet.bshould I do lower ball joint first or go ahead and finish upper control arm

The upper and lower control arm bolts should not be fully tightened until everything is assembled and you can lower the weight of the truck back down onto them.

I loosened the lower control arm but when I try to jack it up for new ball joint install the whole truck goes. What am I missing here?

Nothing, the lower control arm is still on the spring and the spring is on the frame so jacking the lower control arm will lift the vehicle. If the upper control arm is installed put the steering knuckle/spindle on the lower control arm first and then jack it up, the truck will lift some but once the weigh is all on the spring you should be able to pull the upper ball joint right down into the knuckle.

I think he needs to replace lower ball joint first. Truck just isn't jacked up high enough to get the clearance.
