Project Trail Authority (Official Build Thread)

i know thats why im going to be there on saturday! what time are you guys going to be working?

not having to buy those may leave me enough money to afford the 33s matt has off his old truck :yahoo:

still for sale, and I would love to get rid of them

i will tomorrow when i stop by. oh and good point, sorry Viva*the*Ranger!

Alright, well it's been a while since I posted here. So I figured I'd give ya'll the (not so exciting) update.

I filed my taxes today, and according to Turbo Tax, I should be getting my refund either next Friday, or the following Friday. I'm getting $1900 back, which will cover damn near everything! It will be a trail ready truck within the next month. I'm extremely excited!

Things I'm going to buy:

6" lift brackets/coils

Steel for extending my radius arms, rock sliders, and hopefully the tube-bed

2" coil spacers

Belltech shackles/leafs + fab 2" blocks

Exploder 8.8

4.88 gears+master install kits

Used 35's from CL

CB

High lift Jack

And hopefully a winch (if there is enough cash left over)

I'm a very good shopper, and know some people at a place called "Specialty Metals" that can hook me up with a pretty good deal on the steel. So hopefully, I'll be able to check everything off that list.

That's about it. Very soon, I'll be posting up pics, and modification processes. This little Ranger is about to get a face lift!

Thanks for tuning in my RBV brother!

Thanks Froggy. I've been wanting a project truck, for sooo long, so it's really nice to not only have the truck, but to have the means to fund it, and finally get going on it. It's been a dream of mine, since I first drove a Ranger.

It's going to be a on-going project, so this is just the first step. Once the D35 takes a crap, I'm gona go for the D44 knuckle swap, and cut and turn. I'd like to just knock it out now, but I'm too anxious, and REALLY want to hit some trails.

Got my tax returns today:headbang:

I bought a 6" superlift kit, complete with shocks, and everything needed front and rear, picked up some 2" coil spacers from ebay for $49 after shipping, and Belltech 6400 shackles. The total cost for 8" of lift: $620 including tax, and shipping.

That leaves me with $1200 to work with, for steel for the tube bed/bumpers, explorer 8.8, high lift jack, 3" body lift, gears (I decided to go with 5.13's), CB, and lights.

I also decided to pick up a back up camera to mount to the grille, facing downward. This will eliminate the hassle of getting out of the truck six times to see what's in front of you when cresting steep hill tops, drop offs, and whatnot. I found one at Schucks for $89:icon_bounceblue:

I should see the lift, and gears in about 6-10 business days. As long as Rainy Washington doesn't rain on me too bad, I should be able to get everything done except for the tube-bed, in about 3-4 weeks.

Pretty stoked to see things coming along. I'll make sure to post many of pics!

Here are some links to the deals I found on gears, front and rear, as well as the master install kits. A little bit of research, saved me hundreds, so I hope this can help someone that's building on a budget.

Word! I just received the coil spacers today, picked up a brand new high lift jack off CL, for $50, installing a new fuel pump (tank pump) tomorrow, shackles should be here on monday, and the 6" lift, gears, and install kits should get here late next week.

Pics will come very soon. Trying to get the 2.9 all fixed up has been eating away at the build funds pretty bad, so tires and tubing for the bed and bumpers, might have to wait a couple weeks.

So far I have $250 tied up in the motor, $620 in lift, and $600 in gears. I basically got the truck for free though, so it's been a great budget build.

yeah actually I was over at his house the other day and I managed to snag a few spy shots with my phone while he wasn't looking. turns out, he was lying to us. he's actually building an S-10:

Ha ha! You had to let the cat out of the bag didn't you? That has got to be the most worthless build I've ever seen. Lol Gota love the welded together coils!
