Project Guinea Pig

It was gone this morning. Sucks. But the 4R70W was available in F-series too.
Thanks for the tip, Rowdy. Mustang sounds about right for this thing. A guinea pig. lol
Yours looks great, btw. Nice pic of it driving over a Cherokee... :D

Dang that's a bummer!

Any time!

Thank you sir! I've gotta figure out what wire I cut in the dash was the exciting wire for the alt. I couldn't start it up after that pic cuz the battery was dead lol

Picked up interior door panels and switches from an 08 Ranger in the boneyard yesterday. I'm hoping to reuse the existing doors on this as I don't want to paint it until I update the front clip somewhere down the road. The 93 doors have manual crank windows but theres a kit to convert to aftermarket power. Thats what my Superduty had too.

I've decided to just buy a complete running fullsize Ford 4x4 with a Windsor and auto for the swap to a V8. A body lift is planned also.

No rush on this right now though. The leg injury became infected and I have an IV on the back of my right (dominant) hand. So I'm just gathering money and info mostly for now.

Damn!

I might have to change this bullsh!t plan. The kit I listed above for power windows is $275 before tax. Just checked the Pick n Pull price list and complete doors are $88.99.
120P Door Assy. W/Hinges (Complete Pick-Up/Van) $88.99 $4.99 (core)

I swear I spent more on the interior panels and switches alone. But couldn't take any doors there as all had the power window assys removed already.
:damnit1:

Edit: Of course if I find decent power everything doors in the trucks color I'll get them. I might see if I can adapt power window motors and regulators from something else into these doors. Disclaimer: until something is mounted on the truck and I'm happy with it all decisions are subject to change. :thefinger:

Decided last night that the 93 front clip is the straightest, most rust free part of this truck so until I bend it it can stay there. I do want to mount the "power bulge" hood though.
Junkyard shopping today...

Yesterday and today at PicknPull and scored a right 08 taillight (when I get the left I'll update from the 03's I have on now), right 08 power mirror and 08 Ranger XLT fender emblems. I actually pulled the left mirror only to find the wiring had been pulled out of the motor inside so I passed on that. I'll find another somewhere.
I'm following member mjonesjr 07 mirror install but there are differences between his install and this. (http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/spring2009/2006+_mirror_mod.htm) I'll post pix once I get further on it. I'll pick up some 7/8 washers in the morning to finish mounting the mirror.
Its okay, its a stat here in the great white north. :icon_thumby:

The door locks look easy enough. http://www.princessauto.com/pal/en/12v/Single-Power-Door-Lock/8008425.p Cheap even.

I went to another local Picknpull here just to walk the lot and see if anything might be useful. 2 '07 Rangers, both base models, one has a manual mirror in black (my right is chrome) so... idk about that.
But theres an '02 B4000 4x4 that looks loaded and might have been last licensed in '06. Its complete and covered in algae, and the inside stinks to high hell from "dead mice" (actually written on the doors by the yard crew!) This could mostly complete my little 'power doors side project' (less drivers mirror) if I can hold my breath long enough to remove that stuff. I got there after work, not long before their closing time and without adequate tools. I left the door open to air it out overnight. I'll go over it to see what else might be useful. I can't see why it was only insured for four years but if true, it should be low mileage.

I'll bet you're wondering why I don't get it running. Truth is, I have to start from scratch to figure out where I left off and what I missed in swapping drivetrains. The mechanical part is done long ago, the wiring - not so much. My weak link in mechanical abilities is electrical, hands down. Not looking forward to sorting colored spaghetti thats been mixed and matched from different trucks. But I'm getting to where I need a pickup and I'm getting tired of the gf reminding me of this particular failure.
The powered doors side project is largely an electrical challenge and I did set out to end up with a better truck than what I started with...

Heh. Live ones too. Little grey ones looking at me when I opened the right quad door. No wonder it stunk in there. :bad:
But I did fetch the power window mechanisms and harnesses out of it. I'll get the power lock solenoids from Princess Auto cuz they're $9.99 new vs $16.99 used @ Picknpull. This hasn't been a cheap modification so far but I like convenience features in my vehicles. The Bronco II is a fairly loaded XLT model and while the 90 Bronco II XLT has power windows and locks the 93 Ranger XLT doesn't. I'm not sure why.

You're doin all kinds of luxury mods! Idk if I could figure that wiring out lol

It *sounds* easy enough according to this: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...window-switches-how-do-i-wire-them-in.114181/
Essentially there are Power and Ground sources. Other wires control function except that Ford switches change polarity to control function, which sounds easier. I plan on using an accessory fuse box and using a switched power source on it. Google and Youtube have some pretty decent how-to explanations and vids.
I discovered tonight that the plugs from the 02 B4000 don't fit the 08 Ranger switches. I figure if I can get the right harnesses for the switches since the switches change polarity to control up and down on the windows it should be down to providing switched power and ground. Pretty much the same thing for the door lock solenoids (aftermarket) and the stock doors have power mirrors that need adapting.
Another approach: http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?TID=102990

That don't sound too bad!

Since its just the doors I can compartmentalize the problem, just turning it into a positive and ground issue. If I decide to make it more difficult I can yank the underdash harness from the 92 Exploder engine donor I ain't had time to finish toasting out yet. (step by step all factory install in a 98... http://www.ranger-forums.com/interi...how-power-window-swap-using-oem-parts-118206/ )
The rest of the truck is an unknown electrical problem or problems. I suspect multiple problems though.

This weekend I'm getting a new camera. My thread sucks without pictures. :bawling: lol

I bought a new Fuji camera today. Under $100.
Took a few test pix to post here. Idk what this is gonna look like yet...

Current (tonight...) view of this project:

1993 2wd Ranger with 08 mirror and emblem on pass side. Looks a little goofy with the 4wd grille (plus its a total fraud! lol). :icon_confused:

For contrast, I haven't replaced the drivers side emblem and don't have the last style mirror for it yet. I did, however, replace the bent fender on this side.

Old fender:

A little "Goo Gone" should take off the remaining old emblem foam glue crap. I sprayed a little match paint to partly hide the scratches on this fender. Ain't no show truck here.
I want it a lot more like the newer ones - I don't want a constant reminder that its 21 years old and at least somewhat presentable in public.
