project family wheeler. chop top 1 ton explorer.

Ditto to the above. I would think the actual slider material would eat itself pretty quickly once some grit gets imbeded into them.

Once upon a time, I saw a slider setup, but instead of the poly sliders (or whatever they are), they used sealed roller bearings. If I come across the thread again I'll link it for some 'food for thought'. Its probably a non issue though.

Can you link some 'long term' threads? All that I'm finding (mostly on Pirate and NAXJA) are the "hey my sliders are on" threads with no long term updates. Its a pretty cool idea that I might use in another build so I'm very curious as to how they'll hold up.

I think the sliders would last longer than a bearing, seems to me that the tight tolerances of slider would "wipe" most of it out of the way. I would think a bearing would just roll up to tiny rocks and grit and just slide instead of rolling.

Also with a bearing it can only be in contact with either the top or the bottom which I would think would make for a lot of slack in the system.

As for them lasting a while I talked a little with timmay ( the guy from liquid iron industries that runs them on his Cherokee), he seems to act like they have a pretty good life span and replacements are cheap. Although I haven't asked a price.

DERP.

You're right, there would need to be a little extra slack in there for a bearing to work correctly. I still can't find the thread that I was thinking of that used them, but I'm thinking it was done on a go fast truck.

...I talked a little with timmay ( the guy from liquid iron industries that runs them on his Cherokee)....

AH HA! I remember watching Timmay go through building them on NAXJA, I didn't realize that Timmay=Liquid Iron. I just though someone ripped off his design :icon_twisted:

Either way, I'm courious as hell to see them work.

I know which one your talking about, I'll find it in a little. Those were the DIY4x sliders.

He's a nice guy and responded to all my questions quickly. We'll see how they look when they come in.

They aren't cheap so I'm hoping they are some high quality pieces.

How about instead of acting like a douche, read what he said and learn from it instead of spouting gibberish in a tech thread

acting like a douche by telling someone off who contradicted facts i posted?

You do realize he is a mechanical engineer right?

i realize that i'll trust the engineer that was sitting right next to me while i posted that is more reputable than someone on a forum

Im going to be as nice as I can about this, GTFO. You never post anything worth reading here but a bunch of off topic bullshit please for the love of god increase your post count somewhere else.

If you don't want to mount your ram on the cover of your never going to need a ram ranger THEN DON'T, nobody really cares. please next time do some research before you type because with every post you get dumber and dumber.

so, how many posts have you made in this thread since you actually built anything on it? why exactly are you giving ME shit for taking it off topic, when you post about absolutely everything... atleast the posts of mine that you're referring to are actually about a modification you're working on, for your truck... and as for what i'm going to do with my truck, how exactly do you figure you know what i will and won't do with my truck? possibly i don't see the need to throw parts at it when there are no areas that require tons under my truck... half the battle is learning to drive the obstacles, not building a vehicle you can't drive

Problem is weezl... Bray is right.

Back to original issue, many people mount the assist cylinders to a heavier fabbed cover because it works... With a smaller amount of axle space to work with it lets the cylinder sit more parallel to the tierod so there's less chance of bending it as well as having the cylinder attempt to rotate the tie rod which can be hard on TRE's/Heims etc.

Mine will be mounted to the tube.... cuz I don't have covers :thefinger:

Sorry slo-vo, I was going to let sleeping dogs lie but....

While I don't know you from Adam, you're either sorely lacking the knowledge to understand what Bray I were talking about, or we're losing something in translation as things float back and forth across the border.

For your sake, I'll assume the latter.

However, your immediate rebuttal to Bray shows that you lack some serious maturity which just makes you look like a Jackass (or whatever the Canadian equivalent is). But as I said earlier, I don't know you from Adam, so I'll just assume you're having a couple of off days.

Continuing down the path you currently are on isn't doing you any favors other than furthering the Jackass Stigma that most seem to be associating you with, and it also makes you out to be rather Trollish.

...i realize that i'll trust the engineer that was sitting right next to me while i posted that is more reputable than someone on a forum....

Whether or not this claim is true, the way its stated is very childish. Either you misunderstood what he told you 'while sitting next to you', or he's intentionally messing with you. If neither one of those are true, then that 'Engineer' is so Fawking Goofy that he'd better start worrying about Disney filing sexual assault charges on him.

With that, I'm done. Slow-vo asked not to have his thread cluttered up with this and I'll respect it from here on out. That's what Grownups do after all.

acting like a douche by telling someone off who contradicted facts i posted?

I thought your original comment that I was 'talking out my ass' was said jokingly, and you understood that I truly know what I'm talking about.

Now I really think you're a dumbass; or you're just trying to be a troll.

i realize that i'll trust the engineer that was sitting right next to me while i posted that is more reputable than someone on a forum

I hope that guy sitting next to you drives a train rather than designs machine components.

I love every last bit of this build! The thread however... Good thing that little red triangle with the exclamation point is there.

Ok, everyone has said their piece now.

Let it go and carry on.

um, its my thread im pretty sure i can post whatever in it. also how have i been posting absolutely everything in it?

i went back a 3-4 pages and here are just a couple of your posts that have absolutely nothing to do what we were talking about, including the post that started this whole conversation. never once did i mention mounting a ram to the cover until you randomly posted a picture of someone else's.

off topic completely, apparently there's a porche 6 speed transmission that mates up directly to a chevy 350 block

anyone see a "problem" with this:

or possibly an awesome with this:

acting like a douche by telling someone off who contradicted facts i posted?

get your facts straight, if you dont know what your talking about then use the pretty little search button. it works wonders for not making yourself look like a dumbass.

And to get back on track..... Looks like I finally found an np435 and another 205 thanks to mr. Combs. Can't beat the price at $60 bucks but it will have to wait until early next week before I can go get it as it about an hour and a half away.

Yay! progess! sorta.. lol
Think you'll be out scaring trees for spring?

Don't know if I'll make spring or not, just depends on money and motivation. Wheels and tires will be my biggest problem.

Ok, everyone has said their piece now.

I have not said my piece :annoyed:

I'm gone for a few months and I'm missing out on all kinds of awesome

IE: This build, and weezls stupidity.

Maybe I should return to start policing people up:thefinger:

Seriously though slo-vo. I'm very impressed. Build is looking awesome.
