How would I go about removing the coil spring-to-axle nut and retainer? I tried getting it off with a huge breaker bar and lots of penetrating oil, and it just won't budge. Is there something I am doing wrong?

Depending on where you work, it may be pretty rusted on. I would go out everyday for a week and spray a ton of penetrating oil on it, and then get your breaker bar with cheater bar and go at it. You might have to torch it and get it hot first.

If I recall correctly they use thread locker at the factory, so heat is a must.

make sure theres not a cotter pin in there too, i know mines got one but i think a previous owner rigged it up that way

True. Heat and a long breaker bar. I got mine off without heat but I didn't know better at the time. Lots of cursing and sore muscles the next day.

i threw some heat on mine from a regular propane torch, they came off surprisingly easy after some heat on them

When I pulled mine to put on extedned RA my impact gun (1/2 drive earthquake) was having issues so I ended up cutting off the end of a 1 1/8" wrench and using my high lift jack handle as a cheater bar. It still took some oomph, but it did come off.

When I took one off at my neighbors house (stripping an X for parts) we used my new Earthquake 1/2 drive impact wrench and he runs his air lines at 175psi. That made short work of those bolts.

Also, I'm in Az, so I didn't have to deal with rust.

the only problem with using an impact gun is that by time you use an extension long enough to reach that nut, half the torque the gun puts out is being lost thru the extension twisting. my IR2161ti would rip it right off with no extension, but with an extension it will just sit there clanking away and not budging it :bawling:
