So, I've been thinking of a fun but not permanent idea for forced induction using a powerful electric leaf blower. I wouldn;t bother, but I've seen proof of concept in the form of my friend hooking on up to the intake of his '95 F-150. I figure a mildly solid setup could be accomplished with a powerful elec leaf blower, some wiring, a jerry rigged air cleaner, a pair of extra batteries, a high output alternator, and a case of beer.

Anyone on here actually tried what I refer to as a Black & Decker forced inuction?

You're about a week late posting this.

Wait - you're serious? That changes everything. Thought this was a joke.

The electric blower won't generate positive manifold pressure, and certainly can't increase airflow at WOT. Plenty of discussion on electric leafblowers, electric superchargers, etc that you can find explaining the problems with the theory if you dig around.

I was more commenting on a weekend build for the fun of it and used solely for burnouts, like I saw my friend do (it had to of done something, i've seen him slam the pedal down from a dead start before and there was some difference). the mentioning of the alternator was solely for completeness of a supposed setup. Obviously I woldn't keep such a system on any engine or use it for driving around. Just seemed like a fun thing to build, for the most part.

The problem you will have is finding an electric motor that will move a large enough volume of air without drawing too many amps to negate any increase in power output.

Whats the standard cfm on a 4.0 OHV? If I ever bothered to test this, that'd be the engine it would go on. If nothing else I'm sure I could find an electric motor to beef up an already beefy leaf blower.

Despite the futility I'll probably get bored enough one day to attempt it.

Thats what the extra car batteries would be for. Some go-faster stripes would probably help too.

Tho my friend used a plug-in leaf blower and that's why he only got half way down his driveway.

untill about a week ago i'd have just completely ignored this thread all together. however, hot rod magazine put two gas powered leaf blowers on a vette i think and were able to generate something along the lines of 8# of boost off idle, which dropped to about 1/2# at WOT.

Its not a good idea, just an idea lots of people have.
