Last fitting will be here today, so I get the resi mounted and filled and move on to the belly skid.

This little guy showed up yesterday too.

I put it all together only to find the brake is not working right. When I power in or out it sounds like a box of rocks, but the motor sounds fine if I run it separate, and if i drive just the planetary set with a drill, it sounds fine. But when its all together the brake assembly is constantly ratcheting.

Got the belly skid taken care of last night.

I used heavy wall 1x1 tube to connect the trans crossmember and the t case crossmember. Then laid a sheet of aluminum over it and notched it out for the drive shaft.

I would have liked to put some tube between the 1x1, but I ran out and this will get me by until I get more.

All my hydro plumbing is buttoned up and ready to rock. Had some hood safety latch/cooler interference issues, but I was able to redesign the latch with a different spring and make it more compact. FYI....brake cleaner eats powder coat....

I all have left to do to have it wheelable is notch my center console a little more to clear the t case shifter since my new trans crossmember pushed everything up .5"

Looks good. When you going to have it ready enough to come down here and ride?

Since the truck is basically ready to rock and I really didn't feel like cleaning up the MASSIVE pile of left over stuff and tools in the shop...I decided to tinker around with my winch a little.

I replaced the motor, cleaned up the gearbox and relubed/resealed it, and put it back together only to find out it sounds like a box of rocks being kicked down an "up" escalator.

I did a little research and came to the conclusion that the direct drive/brake assembly was out of time and not functioning properly.

I shot Warn tech support an email asking if there was a specific way to assemble it. I expected a typical "Ship the whole winch back and we will look at it" or " just purchase and replace part in question".....but they fired back with a direct line to their winch service guy and told me he would pull one apart and wait for my call.

I called him and sent me an email with pictures and walked me through the whole procedure verbally and made sure it worked. Then we bullshitted for 20 min about his FJ on 33s.

Moral to the story...Warn service kicks ass.

Now that I knew the the winch was mechanically sound, I started cleaning up the rusty, dirty, neglected electrical connections.

I replaced all the rusty steel nuts with brass and wire wheeled all the corrosion and grime of the copper and remade all the cables ends with tin-plated copper lugs. I thoroughly coated everything with terminal protector and put boots on the motor leads. I mounted the solenoid pack to the motor with some hose clamps to make it all one compact package (it was more convenient to mount upside down).

I had enough decent cable left to make leads and throw on a disconnect. Now I just need to buy line....still in the air on synthetic or steel. Im leaning towards synthetic.

I also received a call back from a company I interviewed with a few weeks ago....looks like I will be moving back to the Columbus area and have a few more nickels to rub together by the end of the year. I will miss all my NE Ohio friends, but I will have a few more doll hairs to through at my bucket of bolts and actually have benefits for once, so I can take that 2 week wheelin' trip I have always thought about.

Popped a shaft around 3pm and called it a day. I wasnt even pushing it hard when it popped. Just cruising up Blueberry Hill and...pop. I looked expecting to find a blown joint, but both were good. Pulled the lockout the issue was obvious. lol

We should plan a 2015 trip. Gotta do it before kid #2 comes along

Did the B2 make it up the flat rock section of Blueberry?

No.lol he got about 10 feet into it.lol I almost had him through the Gauntlet (the first knarly little rock patch of Lower Rim)but he chickened out.

He ran that tight little cliff base trail backwards (Green Mean I think) with no damage somehow. lol

We should plan a 2015 trip.

Sounds like a plan.

I ran it normal and scuffed my roof and cracked a vent visor, it was slick and I couldn't get off the wall.
