Popped new bushings in with some all thread, a few sockets and a lug nut.
Dropped the 7.5 out and bolted the 8.8 in its place. Had to re-flare the brake lines to swap the ends from 7/16" to 3/8" thread at the wheel cylinders.
Everything was going smoothly up until this point.
The 1999ish 8.8 came as you see it with bare 10" backing plates....no worries. I have loaded backing plates and drums from the 1994 8.8 that I swapped into my black Ranger and reused the original 9" brakes on that truck....I also have some wholesaler closeout Motorcraft shoes.
Where things get weird is that the new shoes I have don't have the correct holes for the adjuster/lower spring setup...no worries! I have a box of wholesaler closeout out adjuster hardware that worked!
Perfect right? All installed pretty smoothly... besides the parking brake arm is a different shape on the newer brakes and the 88 cable may need some modifications (TBD later)
Then I hit the road block for the night.
Apparently the 1999 axles have a larger hub pilot....so the drums I have won't work.
Never realized there were so many variations in brake hardware over the years....but between this truck and my black truck I have found a half dozen things that don't play nice depending on year
Next on the list is swap the in tank pump for a high pressure 255lph and bypass the frame rail pump. I need to look at wire sizes, but I may need to run a larger power wire to the tank.
