I know this has been discussed, however I have not seen anything with the same symptoms (I read several). There is play when the wheel is turned to the left, from the "normal" posistion. I figured I would check what I could easily see. I bent over, looked at the joint in the cab near the firewall, its tight. I decided to move the wheel back and forth in the are there is play. The shaft didn't turn with the wheel. So that tells me the play is in the column somewhere... What should I check next?

BTW 1995 Ford Ranger, 2.3, 5sp.

Thanks

Whats inside the shaft is tubes that slide inside each other. That way when your in a bad crash the steering wheel can't slam you in the cab.You could take off the cover and make sure all is good with the wheel tight undamaged if your air bag will let you.Never heard of play in the column.

There is a guy in my town that has and old bed head and foot board for racks different heights of coarse. What tops it off of coarse is he has a deployed airbag cut off with a knife with the end of the material flopped out of the steering wheel and hanging down when he turns.Sorry popped into my head when airbag came up.

thanks for the update & the fix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
