Hello all,

My 2001 4.0 SOHC was giving p0171 and p0174 codes, so I checked it out and the PCV hose elbow was totally cracked. I replaced it with a Dorman 48011 part; it was pretty simple. I thought this would fix it but now upon startup the truck idles super rough and even stalls out sometimes. It sometimes did this prior to the replacement, but not nearly as bad as now. Does anyone know why replacing this part made my problems worse? I know there's lot of other potential causes for this issue, but I haven't investigated them yet. Thanks for the help.

Sounds like a major vacuum leak. Ya sure you got everything back together right?

Yeah, pretty sure. It really didn't take much to replace that so I don't think I could have knocked much loose. I've been thinking that maybe the ECU has adjusted to having that leak and now it needs to be reset, because the CEL has been on for months. Or perhaps the IAC valve is stuck

For some reason I thought there was two elbows on those that liked to crack and leak. I’d do a good check for vacuum leaks and pull the negative battery cable for a good 15 minutes or so to reset things.
