Hello.
My 02 Ranger had a rear parking brake cable seize up, so I replaced both rears with Ford OEM.

After adjusting the star adjusters, brake pedal was good and firm.

But the parking brake arm easily goes to the floor with mild effect on the rears.

Could the front and intermediate be streched that far?
I never had it go that far before or does that mean nothing?

Thanks!

youll need to tighten your cable adjuster if there is one. it should be at the end of the front cable, right before the two cables split apart and go to separate wheels.

that sucks. guess you need to get a new front cable, intermediate cable or double check that your ebrake hardware is all installed properly.

i just added up the cost of all the cables at work (Auto Value/ Bumper to Bumper) and thats almost $100 for all the cables to make your parking brake work. thats rediculous, i would be retrofitting old ranger hardware to get some adjustment.

there IS a way. there are generic cable tensioners available at almost any auto parts store. check it out

Cable tensioners. I'll check that out. The cable slides perfectly. Hate to replace just for tension, but I can't hack the knurl off the end to make it shorter. Gotta think of something.

Well, theres nothing I can do thats not OEM. Aftermarket turnbuckles just cant take the 250-300 lbs of force I think it should need. I'd hate to ge cheap and have it break while I'm away, roll down a hill and kill someone. Besides, my repairs will show up in the investigation.

So I'll look at the earlier ranger versions and even getting an 02 oem cable. Just hope it'll work.

Any year ranger used an adjustible cable?

not a turnbuckle, a cable tensioner that is built for parking brake cables, it looks totally different. but i see where you're coming from on the liability thing
