so my parking brake doesnt work properly such as even though the pedal is pushed all the way down, it doesnt really engage and stuff but what happened the other day was just wierd.
I was going 55 on the highway when i heard a thunk by my foot and my parking brake light came on. so i check and the brake was fully engaged but was affecting my driving in the least. i.e. i didnt slow down any while it was engaged.

any ideas as to what is going on?

Thanks

You may want to have someone press and release the parking brake as you watch what's going on underneath the truck. Your cable may have snapped and that's why your brakes don't hold etc... and that could also explain why the parking brake pedal just fell down because it didn't have resistance holding it back.

Also, check the condition of the parking brake adjuster mechanism (the star wheel in the rear brakes). This should spin fairly easily. If the cables are working properly, it sounds like the adjusted has stopped working (fairly common, it seems).
