Gives a purplish tint to the tail lights, from one small blue dot in the center of the lens. Popular with hot roders. I have seen them on a lot of trucks in the past. Guess it shows my age.

Haaaaaaa. Smart cop. Glad he was paying attention to that!!! I hate that look as well. We have a lot of roads that have no lighting and I hate to come up on an idiot with that crap on their headlights and their tail lights. So really stupid of these idiots!!! It is worse when we get that really dense fog and you will see idiots who don't turn on their lights when driving in the thick fog!!!!!
For what it is worth I believe all tinting on lights should be illegal. I think it is really stupid to have it done. It could case an accident and I have sad this time after time...if anyone cause me to have an accident because they are using the tinting on their lights or texting as they drive and cause me to crash I will sue the phone company and I will sue the idiots who make that stupid tint for head and tail lights!!!!!

I would hate to give you a reason to rearend Me when I quick stop for a Dog, Child or piece of Debris in the road. i have gotten pulled over for speeding before and after i argued with the cop and told him i wasnt speeding and he was wrong he gave me a ticket for my tailights saying they were "out" which yes i had messed up the night shade making them too dark but i fixed the tinting and put brighter bulbs in them and took it to court so i didnt have to pay the ticket. but i also live in southaven mississippi a suburb of Memphrica. so there is alot of cops in my town with NOTHING BETTER TO DO than pull over high school kids and give them tickets mostly because they have to pay it and get yelled at by their parents.

I can see light covers and spray on tint being banned in the near future. I am surprised it hasn't been already. I would be completely OK with that. You guys that tint your lights are stupid. Y'all are gonna cause an accident.

Back in the day when I used to do state inspections? Any coverings on the lights was an automatic "BOMB".

Really ticked off the local teenagers with their wannabe racers. Told 'em as they walked into the shop "Take that stuff off your lights before I even write the service ticket". Always managed to get a few that started to mouth off. LOL.

I wish TN. would bring a Inspection sticker, I see some of the stupidest stuff on cars and trucks, there was a car the other day that passed me that had half of the windshield covered with duct tape where it had got smashed.

I have seen a Chevy truck that runs around Morristown all the time that has ONLY two little 1" lights for the tail lights. and if your not looking for them, you won't see them.

Also it use to be illegal to but a blue light on your car, but now I see them all the time, one even tried to pull me over one morning when I went back to school, turn out to be a Latino, he didn't like the fact that I was carrying at the time, and I also called the cops on him.

on my ranger and my f-150, you cant see the brake lights or turn signals unless theyre actually on. never had a problem. got pulled over for speeding and the cop didnt say anything about my lights or tinted windows (20%)
and when i say you cant see them unless theyre on, i mean it (blend perfectly with a black truck haha). theyre completely blacked out lol.

And when you get rear-ended because the guy behind couldn't see you or your lights at night, the first thing the guy should say to his insurance company is 'he had his taillights blacked-out.'

ive had a friend drive behind me before, and this was when i first tinted them, i called him and asked him how my lights looked, i turned on both turn signals, tapped the brakes and he said they lit right up and were still very noticeable. and they were fine just as running lights too. but i have seen people driving around and i couldnt see their taillights even when it was pitch black out. crazy.

For you young folks.....
Cop cars and other emergency vehicles all had RED lights in the USA. All vehicles had white lights in front, red lights in back and trucks might have amber running lights that could be seen from the front and amber or green lights that could be seen from the sides. So a blue light was very unusual and really got your attention.

Standard tail light lenses were a red lens. You got red light for normal and BRIGHT red light for brake or turn signal. A fad was to buy or make your own "Blue Dot" lenses. Take a standard red lens and add a blue lens 3/4" or so in diameter to roughly the middle of the lens. The brake bulb filament was positioned below (or was it slightly above?) the running filament in the bulb and when it was lit, the brake filament was centered in the blue lens and the light went from red to blue. It was a big dramatic difference that really got your attention and in my opinion was a great safety feature. Of course if it were poorly done, then you got a blueish red running light and more blueish brighter light for brakes.

But then YOUR government decided first, people couldn't see blue very well, so blue dot tail lights must be dangerous and outlawed them in most places. Then YOUR government decided that blue lights got people's attention, so we better start using blue and red on all emergency vehicles. But since now blue isn't unusual, blue dot tail lights have no real safety value. They look neat, but are illegal most places.
