Old time tricks and hacks.

Anybody got any jacks to remove ALL antiseize from window crank assemblies

If you have a engine with flat top pistons place piston 1 in piston 5's place and vice versa.... 2-6 6-2 3-7 7-3 4-8 8-4 for a more aggressive running engine... not for daily's though

@PetroleumJunkie412 this was what I wanted to tell you about for your 2.9 heads and valves

Wouldn't this just put the engine out of balance?

probably.
some time ago I talked to a machinist & racer from the 60's about flipping pistons.
he tried it back then, said it didn't do much.

what it does do is move the leverage on the crank and piston speeds to other parts of the rotation cycle.
also separates crank TDC from piston TDC, throws the cam vs piston height off too.

another thing it does is take the stronger side of the piston (some have thicker skirts on the power side) and move it
to the other side of the cylinder. that means the thinner skirt is now on the power (or thrust/vector/whatever) side of the cylinder.

easy to see the effects if you construct a cardboard model of a crank/cylinder/piston/rod assembly.
try it with the pin centered, then for demonstration purposes move the pin all the way to one side, then the other.

I've read that modern engines have the "offset" built into the block to optimise the physics.

on my Taurus Yamaha SHO engines the pistons do not have offset pins, I didn't check the bore alignments.

edit: the guy in the video doesn't use files correctly.
if filing a rotating thing-a-ma-bob stroke the file so it doesn't load up in one place. :shok:

Do you ever want to put a later model factory radio into a little bit earlier model? You can find them that will fit the hole,, but the wiring is different. Here is how you can make your own custom adapter harness, and not have to cut your factory harness wiring.

1. This does require a trip to the junkyard. You are looking for your same model vehicle that your newer radio came from. Just make sure your newer radio does plug in. Then cut the plugs out of the junkyard harness, leaving enough wire length to work with.

2. Go to the store and buy a aftermarket plug set to fit your vehicle, your original radio.

3. Plug your aftermarket plugs into your radio harness. You will be left with loose wires. Plug in your junkyard plugs into the newer radio, you will be left with wires.

4. Join these two sets of wires together properly to power the radio, speakers and all the functions that match up. You will probably need some wiring diagrams for the two radios, but you can usually find these online.

Ford had a lot of display problems with their early radios, I have swapped in the later radios that are more reliable using this method. And it still says "Ford" on the front of the radio.

🤷‍♂️ guys have been doing it for years maybe it would 🤷‍♂️

maybe. I can see how fine tuning for a specific output could involve the offset.
try constructing the cardboard model. you'll be surprised how far events change
if the pins are pushed all the way to either side.

oh, most of those guys also added stickers. it's anybody's guess which mod made a difference. :icon_thumby:

I have a short block lying around with flat top pistons I could just slap them around. But finding an engine dyno would be an issue.

not all engines have offset wrist pins, does yours?

I guess my concern is: if guys have been flipping pistons since the early 60's, why haven't the manufacturers also done it?
did they indeed have knowledge of said flipping pistons? was that info discretely filed along with the 80mpg carburator?
when EFI came along was that file thrown out, not knowing the magic flipper was attached?
OH THE HUMANITY,

it's getting late, thoughts are as foggy as it is outside

Your over thinking it...
Your either gonna try it or not....
Who gives a shit about his file? you got the point about smoothing the surface area of the valves for airflow? I shared the video for PJ for the valves and I didn't feel like typing out the whole explanation for the piston swapping.

My bad, I forgot you talked to a machine shop..... you dont see adsm demanding some bullshit cardboard box bullshit be done. He asked a question and moved on with his life. ****, I hate people like you.
