Newbie here needs help, Idle

I'm still leaning toward a vacuum leak. The mass air should make it run bad going down the road as well.
I had to go to work so I missed your earlier question.

That is a strong possibity on that causing the lean code as well. But vacuum leaks are tricky. If you can get a free try at a MAF i'd do it. After that we'll diagnose further. Mutant is a smart man he knows his stuff too, probably even moreso than i could dream :p.

Ok update! I love you guys! I replaced the MAF and it cleared 4 out of the 5 codes. The lope at idle is gone, now it is a rough idle.
The one code left is P0300, misfire. That is what it feels like at idle, otherwise it seems to run fine.
I went to napa they said it is the EGR or Cam sensor, Auto Zone says spark plugs. I told them I will go home and ask the experts!
So what do you guys think?

I think the scan tool paid for itself already! :)

How many miles are on it and, has it had a plug change? What about wires? If those have been done it could be a cracked coilpack. It could also be that the plugs are a little fouled from the bad maf.

Yeah I thought of that too on the plugs, I have owned the truck for about 3 years, it has 85000 on it. I have not done the plugs since I have it. Wires don't look bad. 2 of the plugs look very difficult to get to.

Yup, The last two on the right(pasenger)side. They are difficult. Drive the truck, I would make a couple wide open throttle runs. That will clean the plugs off. If the problem persists you will probably need plugs. The plugs are supposed to be good for 100,000 miles though.
concidering the miles and the year, it is probably not the coil pack. You can check that by spraying water on it though. If it runs really bad or stalls after spraying the coil pack then you know that it is bad.

Im betting the lean code for so long burned some plugs up. Replace the plugs for now....should fix ya right up.
Glad we could help stacey.

Don't know where the coil pack is. So you don't think EGR or Cam sensor? I figure I will clean the EGR anyway, or at least look at it.

Any advice on getting to those 2 plugs?

Only had a lean code for about a week.

The coil pack is on the other end of the plug wires from the plugs.
The egr is not easy to clean, it has a sensor of it's own which, you did not have a code for.
The cam sensor has it's own code too.
Just take the truck for a little ride, I'm willing to bet it will clean up.

Like he said, EGR and Cam Pos Sensor will throw their own codes. Coil packs hardly EVER go bad on these, especially one so new, but can. The plugs probably dried up and whited over. A good right amount of fuel cleaning will clear this up as mutant said...if it doesnt, pull a couple and look at them.
Glad you are running better.
take care,
alex

I replaced a coil pack on a 2002 explorer about a month ago. It had about 125,000 miles on it though. It was very ugly on the outside, all cracked up. Same code.

you know, on second thought, youve already spent 200$ on this guy. Go ahead and replace the plugs anyhow. Its about 25$ tops and will only make things better. They are going to need it soon anyhow.

Well i know it IS possible certainly. I have no doubt of your intelligence sir don't think that at all. But it is certainly cheaper and of no harm to try the plugs first. I had a 94 that had original coil pack when i sold it in 03...and a 98 that runs the original coil pack now with no problems.
Good luck stacey and thanks for helping mutant,
alex

Ok so you guys are saying take it somewhere and open her up (see what this baby can do?)? If that doesn't do it take out a plug or 2 and check them out.

Ok will do, now just in case this doesn't work and the plugs look ok, where should I go from there? This will at least give me a few options tomorrow and hopefully I will have it cured by this time tomorrow night!

Plugs are easy I am just worried how to get to the 2 on the passenger side, any ideas?
