Newbie here needs help, Idle

It's hard to say just how accurate that test is. In cases i've encountered, it usually had to do with them getting 'stuck' and basically not being able to stay idling and even die when started cold.
Unplugging a sensor should revert the computer to use a default value which is never right but hopefully "good enough".
I'd still try cleaning the MAF with MAF cleaner first, clear codes, and keep your fingers crossed.
Most MAF's these days come in a metal housing, that hooks to the airtube near the a/f yes...and on fords the physical sensor is held into the housing with starhead bolts with nipples on them(called tamperproof or security starheads).

I will start with cleaning the MAF, and the IAC. I willl do the MAF first and see if there is a difference, if not I will clean the IAC. Hope this does it.

If cleaning these doesn't work, what should I do? :dntknw:

I doubt very highly that the IAC (bypass or BYP) is your problem as it did change when you unplugged it.
By the codes you've given us, I'd say you have a vacuum leak.
Does it run good going down the road?

Yes it runs fine, just lopes at idle and is using gas like crazy.

Still could be the MAF.
I asked about running down the road because a plugged fuel filter can give you the both sides lean but, it will have problems at speed.
Another little test for you, Unplug a small vacuum hose from the intake, Does the idle go up or does the engine stall?

Don't have the truck with me so would have to try this later after work. If the idle goes up or stalls then what do you think?

If the idle goes down or the engine stalls then it is a vacuum leak, if the idle goes up then it is probably the maf.
Yes, the maf is next to the air filter. It is not very affective to clean it without tearing it apart.
Also, I have used carb clean without haveing a problem but, they say not to. You are supposed to use throttle body cleaner.

I have Sea Foam throttle body cleaner.
So maybe you can describe where a vacuum hose would be on the intake?
Would I be better off just buying the MAF and see if that does it? I ask because I will have to do some driving back and forth depending on outcome of testing.
Thanks for your help!

Honestly if you can afford it and be VERY careful not to damage it thats what I would do. But keep in mind there is a 80 or so$ core charge, so you'd have to pay that too(wouldn't make sense to give them your old one if you are planning on possibly returning the new), so looking at about 200$. And if it didn't fix your problem, i'd return it and say "never been used" didn't need it. If it fixes it, take your old one back for the core.
Honest? No. But thats in your moral boat to deal with.

Ok so you guys are leaning towards the MAF being bad right? I will pick one up then on my way to the truck and give it a try. I guess the only thing to lose is that it doesn't fix the problem and I return it, and we go from there.
Man what a pain this is! It is driving me crazy. Cross your fingers.......

I just have to unplug it and unscrew it right? Pretty easy no?

Yes...On mine there are 4 bolts holding to the airbox, and then a clamp holding it to the tube. The sensor does not need to be removed from its housing. Unplug, unbolt, unclamp, replace. Just make sure to clear the codes before you start it. They won't disappear magically that fast.

Ok will do, I will post when I get home later and let you know the verdict. Thanks for all your help Alex, I really appreciate it, lets hope this does it.

Any news Stacey?
I don't hang out in this forum much anymore since I no longer own a 4.0...im kinda curious to learn how this one ends up though.

I'm still leaning toward a vacuum leak. The mass air should make it run bad going down the road as well.
I had to go to work so I missed your earlier question. Sorry.
Use your new scan tool to clear the codes, DO NOT disconnect the battery.
