New USA Ranger

CVT in a truck? Not one I would buy. Not with the technology I see today. The last I knew CVT belts are pushers not pullers like in a snowmobile. This makes them much less friendly to higher HP, torque and loads. My 2002 Ranger and now my 2011 are used as a truck with lots of hauling loads and towing. The current CVT's would never stand up to what I do. If you want a CVT in a truck it would probably have a load rating of 250 lbs and a sticker on the back bumper saying even less for towing. Maybe thats all some people want. I guess do you want a truck or do you just want people to think you drive a truck?

I doubt either a manual trans or standard automatic trans out of a small car or four wheeler would do what you do any better than the current CVT offerings either. They haven't made a version for a truck yet so it is rather unfair to really compare apples and potatoes.

From what I have heard as long as you put the special green goo in them rather than standard ATF the Ford ones do pretty good.

Actually a stupid little 500cc CVT four wheeler has about the same tow rating as a 4cyl/3.0 Ranger... about 1200lbs.

They may not be there yet but I do think eventually they will get there for trucks. Especially if you are using the underwhelming A4LD based Ranger transmissions for a benchmark.
