My credo
Doing things wrong, until I get it right.
Drove my Little Nissan 604 miles to Arkansas to swap trucks with my dad.

I got a problematic 98 F-150 XLT and an old "Honda 300" 4-wheeler.

He received trouble free 88 Nissan D21.

Although the F-150 is 10 years younger, it has almost the same amount of miles as the D21 ( 208k on the 150 vs 240k on the D21 )
The F-150 will be my "new" weekend warrior, not a daily driver.

The Ford has a noticeable "skip" and Dad says a "lean code in Bank 1".

Guess it's time to get a good code reader and start problem solving.

if the f150 has the v6 in it, its the vacuum hoses on the back of the engine. pop the cover off and look at the spider web nest of hoses and you will probably see some rotten ones that need replacing. we did my son's 98 or 2k a number of years back and it was a huge improvement for driving

Nah, it has the very thirsty 5.4 2valve triton

NOOOOOOO, you're dead to me now.

ok, j/k, a little too extreme. At least you won't have to worry about he gate lock for the door any longer...

That gate lock gives the truck "character"

It's just a temporary swap. The Ford needs some TLC and pops has run out of that.
It was very hard to drive away from that little bare bones truck but I just rolled up the power windows, hooked my phone to the BlueTooth HU, turned on the A/C, and set the CC to 70 mph and drove back to Tallahassee. My D21 has none of those features.
The D21 is simple and plane and has very little that can fail. Manual window cranks, TBI, 4 speed manual transmission, NO radio, NO A/C, Super reliable Z24i motor.
The Ford has everything and "most" of it works. I plan on getting it back into decent shape. The interior is a mess. It has a Spectrum CAI that I want to remove/replace. Dad doesn't understand what I was trying to explain to him about it needing a "box". Right now he just has it sucking hot engine bay air.

More posts and pics to come.

Adding those items to the HB is super simple too. You must be waiting on an invitation that never comes. lol

I'm sure your dad will be stoked when you bring the F-150 back to him. No AC in AR-Kansas can't be fun in the summer. LOL

The HB had factory A/C but wasn't functioning when I got it, so I removed everything related. The simplicity is what I love. No AC only sucks at red lights or whenever you sit for more than a minute without a breeze. He's actually heading to NC for the summer.

So, it has a 3rd door I never knew about but I can't seem to get it open. Anybody know anything about that?

Yes... you open the front door, pull the handle on the rear door, and like magic the rear door opens.
If it doesn’t open, either the cable or one of the latches is messed up. It has 1 at the top and 1 at the bottom... The bottom one usually gets rusty and sticks, then the cable end breaks.

i have read the cables are huge issues on those rear doors

There is a goofy little lever at the top of the handle that pokes out. I can feel it moving something.

Almost like it was locked when the cable snapped or something. How do I get in there to see .

Check the child lock.

Check the child lock.
There is no child lock on the supercab because you can’t open the suicide door without opening the front door first.

Do you know anything about the lever I circled in the pic ( post#11)

I think that locks the door handle from being able to move when the front door is closed... I have a few trucks here, I’ll check in a little while.
