2001 RWD 3.0. Code P0460, truck only stays running with jumper cables hooked up. On the cluster, the temp gauge doesn't register, the fuel level works, no RPM's, no oil pressure reading, no battery voltage reading. Remove cales and the voltage drops fast! Whats going on here? Inhave a Topdon scanner and can post readouts if needed.

Did it work correctly before?

What's the last place you fooled with it before it started acting up?

Did you cause any sparks while fooling with it?

Does the battery light stay on with it running?

I actually was going to remove the blower motor to clean in the cavity of it, but couldn't get it removed, so I put it back, I just checked the 2 connections I unplugged, they are connected.

@2011Supercab It works, when I unplugged it, the dome light also went off, so it appears good visually as well.

Removed cables, truck is maintaining around 12.20 volts. Runs fine, but the temp guage, tach, oil pressure and battery voltage needles aren't working.

Got to have a gauge fuse... check it.

Your charging system should maintain 14 volts running. If it won't... think alternator.

Taking a cable off while running is never a good idea.

I meant the battery cables from my Superduty. I found my issue, it was fuse 11 in the dash. I had connected some led light strips to it via add-a-fuse and haven't driven the truck in a week after doung so, Also cleanined the interior extensively, etc without driving it at all in 10 days. I think the light strips caused a short to ground. I have the same ones on my Superduty for over 2 years now with no problems. Needless to say, they will be removed tomorrow. Truck is running and at 14.17-14.30 volt range. Cleared the code and its gone.

Thats why I always ask myself... what was the last thing I fooled with.

Glad ya got it figured out sir...

It threw me for a curve, since I did it a week or so ago. Everything seemed fine until I started it and let it run today.
