i plan on having the ranger fire up for the first time with the 5.0 TOMORROW. i need to have this truck going like yesterday.

my ignition module is an older unit similiar to a duraspark. its says wells on the bottom of it.

can anyone tell me what wires needs to go where when i tie it into the existing ranger harness?

the truck may be an 87 but the way it sits right now i have a 91 dual plug 2.3 harness in it minus the wiring from the passenger side.

the ignition module has 6 wires coming from it

colors on the first connector:
green
black with a green stripe
orange
purple

on the smaller connector:
red
white

where do they go?????

assuming i can get gas lines and find an old gas tank today i should have it running by a decent time tomorrow night. djkommandos coming up from muncie to help me out in the morning

Just make sure you use the TFI coil if you use a round aftermarket coil you will need to add a ballast resistor or you will burn out the coil in short order. Use the wiring diagram in the tech library for the duraspark conversion. The TFI coil puts out A better spark and you can use the plugs for the 302 with the TFI ignition (stock motorcraft)

tfi coil??? i might have one. i have the stock 91 coil from when the engine was efi and i also have a coil that came off the same truck i got my duraspark box. it was a running and driving f100 with a 289 until i got the coil and duraspark

Yea that is the square coil that came on the mid 80s fords with the TFI ignition. It can handle battery voltage it dont matter if it is a six or 8 cyl the coil dont know neither does the module how many cylinders there are but it makes the wiring simpler and there is no guessing on the plugs either the stock motorcraft work the best match them to the coil year. If the efi had the dizzy with the TFI ignition use that coil and plugs and use good wires with dielectric grease on the connections for the high voltage going thru them. And depending on the dizzy wether you can use the large cap and rotor to increase the distance between probes in the cap to avoid cross firing in the cap.

Or just get a 12v coil... no resistor required.

The TFI or E coil works too, that is what I am running on durasparked 2.8 and I plan to run on my 302.

i put an older dizzy on it bc it had the steel cam gear for the roller cam and its in perfect shape. so what coil should i use? the one i just got yesterday along with the duraspark or the one that was on it when it was efi?

I used my TFI coil because it was already hooked up and was wired to do all of the things I needed it to.

I got bit when doing the duraspark conversion I got too close to a plug wire not connected all the way and when my heart started beating normal again I think I`m alright. The schematic above dont get any simpler and will perform. Make sure you have power to the coil/module in both run and start position from the ignition and the start circuit separate and you only need the start solenoid with three terminals 2 big one little keep the run circuit separate.

sweet. dear god i hope this thing starts

sweet action. i swear if this thing doesnt at least turn over on its own after tomorrow, im gonna pull it out back and shoot the helll out of it.
