need help asap!

sweet action. i swear if this thing doesnt at least turn over on its own after tomorrow, im gonna pull it out back and shoot the helll out of it.

Hehe, there no reason it wouldn't turn over right now. :icon_thumby:

i believe its a female connector but dont quote me on that

its an 87. to get an idea of what im doing you can see some pics on my profile

87 ranger. originally carb 2.0, in 2005 swapped to a dual plug 2.3, and now im retrofitting it with a carb 302

i do not have a volt meter. just a test light lol. ill ask my dad if i can borrow his if its something im going to need

If it is a 85 the round 2 wire connector the red/blue stripe is the start circuit goes to the white on the module. and the big connector the red/green stripe is the start/run that goes to the pos on the coil and the red on the module. the green on the module goes to the neg on the coil. and the other three all you need is the ground wire hooked to the module the other two are for the pickup and can be reversed it dont really matter.

i should be able to figure it out now. i think ive got a good idea of whats goin on. thanks for the input guys.

All you reall need is a timing light to test the coil and if you know which wires from the ignition switch do what run/start and start only the start only tell the module to retard the timing for a quick start so you want it switched separate with the starter you can run a wire from the solenoid if you have any problems finding it

i dont have a timing light. ill call my parents tonight and see if my dad has one. on second thought ill just go over bc i need to go pick up my motor mounts and a few tools that i need for tomorrow. i have to admit ill probably shit myself if it comes to life tomorrow. if not itll be back on craigslist. i cant afford to continue fixing two cars. my monte carlo has a mysterious misfire and dead short somewhere that needs to be figured out

Keep us posted and as a note you can advance the timing past what the book says a couple of degrees the spark will get there faster than a point system and use the ported vacuum off the carb for the advance.

that vacuum goes to the distributor right? idk im just having a day long brainfart. trying to piece everything together for this in the last 24 hrs has been a ****ing nightmare

Yea from the carb when you get it running find the port that only has vacuum when you open the throttle and no vacuum at an idle usually next to the drivers side idle air adjusting screw. Depending on the carb you have if you dont have a ported vacuum then just plug all the vacuum not needed until you get it timed then you can hook the dizzy up to manifold vacuum and just drop the idle down.
