anyone know what wire to hook to what wire to make my fog lights in my 94 ranger come on with my parking lights and and still go off on high beam?

Fog lights

Hook um up to a switch, I HATE assholes that drive around with their damn fog lights at night when there is NO FOG!!!

They DON"T look cool they just BLIND everybody!

Fog lights aren't as bad as those new SuperBrite bulbs...I think they should make a sensor that automatically dims the bulbs when another vehicle is coming the other way...wouldn't be too hard to do it and it would probably be a benefit...

Another thing would be mirrors that filter out bright lights from people behind you...

Sorry...not gonna jack the thread anymore...but I agree with Carlos to put them on a separate switch so they are on only when needed...

brights

I agree, they had head light dimmers on cars in the late 40's through the 50's, was a photo cell that sat on the dash, looked like a turn signal.

You, sir, are my hero. I agree 1000%. I drive for a highly visible and well known fleet. I've been there over 17 years and until the last two or three years, never had a driver run the damn things on a clear nite. Now we do... I taped up a set on a guy's truck with electrical tape so he'd get the message, and the pussy went in the office and ratted the "someone" who did it out. They are still looking for the culprit. hehehe....

Actually if oncomming "fog lamps" blind you they are either

A)Cheap POS foglamps
B)Aimed incorrectly
or
C)all of the above

Foglamps are SUPPOSED to be aimed so that at 100feet they will light up a
baseball players shoes and his high top socks, but not his knees.

Foglights are supposed to have a sharp "cutoff" so that when you look at
the baseball player mentioned above with ONLY the foglamps tunerd one
it should appear that someone left a pair of mannequin legs cut off below the knee in the middle of the road.

that all being said for the foglamps to function the way the original poster wants (on with parking lamps and low beams but OFF with the high beams you must do the following.

1) Tap into the Parking light/marker light circuit
This wire is run through your SPST switch (Single Pole, Single Throw)
to one side of a relay coil (a relay MUST be used)
2) the OTHER side of the relay coil is grounded through the
high beam circuit (the wire to the high beams) preferably tapped under the hood.

wired this way the relay will switch on when the marker lamps are on
and th switch is on, but switch off when the high beams are switched on because normally the relay coil will be grounded through the path through the high beam
filaments to ground, but when the high beams are switched on there will suddenly be 12V positive on both sides of the relay coil so the relay will "drop out" and turn the foglamps off.

Done this way you will only need to run one wire through the firewall.

Remember to put a fuse in the power feed to the relay switch contacts
that actually power the lamps.

I run them at night all the time because after my last deer encounter I noticed they shine out to the sides more than my regular headlights (I did not have them on at the time) I haven't played with the settings on them at all, and they don't seem to shine out that far.

Keep in mind that deer encounter ended when my truck flung the deer across the other lane at about the level of the bottom of my window... if you would rather run into something like that I guess that is your choice. I do only run them in the country though, I try to remember to shut them off around town.

i had the set on my 84 wired up threw the fender lights, so they were on when ever the lights were on. i had them aimed down to where they were only hittin about 50ft infront of me

Ya need a set of "deer whistles" to keep the deer away.
Had a friend killed on his BMW motorcycle when a deer jumped in front of him. His girlfriend was right behind him on another beemer and saw the whole thing.

Actually this thing did try to get away from me, but it ran the same way I was going (but down the center line) then swerved in front of me as I skidded to a halt (probably doing about 35-40 when I hit it) If I had hit it just standing there it would have been really ugly, but I had a very shallow dent in my bumper from where I presume I hit its shoulder, and good sized crink in my fender behind my front wheel where it't butt hit and started the whole spinning motion that put it on the far shoulder.

I have heard mixed reveiws about how effective those whistles are, I know a lot of people that had them and still hit deer... the are like giant rats around here. I don't think there is a garenteed way to avoid them.

A good friend that is in charge of Alleghany county for the NYSDEC said they do nothing. Think about this, the sound is not being project out towards the deer. Stats show no difference in the amount of cars with or without those whistles that hit dear.
