Hey everybody,

So i'm having the same problem with both of my trucks.

Its a 1994 Ranger XLT 4x4 V6 4.0L Manual (the second one is the same, with an Auto trans)

The truck wont start. Ive replaced the battery, Starter relay, and starter motor and solonid, and i am still getting a single relay click when i turn the key, with no turnover. for the sake of this post, i want to focus on the Manual Trans truck.

Like an idiot, i didnt take a close enough look to remember where the ground wire to the starter motor gets reattached, after i replaced the motor. I think this might be the issue with that truck. Does anybody know where I'm supposed to mount that wire on that model truck?

I am going to give it another try tomorrow, but i figured i would throw up this post and see if anybody has any general info on problems like this that might shed some light on the issue.

Also, before i had the old motor out, i was able to push start the truck. I tested the old motor after i had it out, and it was definitely bad. (i would have liked to have just rebuilt it, but i couldnt find brushes anywhere so i had to spend the $$ on a re-manufactured one).

However, I cant seem to short the two studs on the solenoid out on the new installed motor. Could this be because it is improperly grounded?

AFAIK the starter is grounded through being bolted to the transmission.

the ground wire just sits under one of the bolts that holds the starter motor to the bell housing it doesn't matter which one as long as theres no dirt in between the ground and the casing
