My New House & Workshop

I bow to any man who can pull that off. I've done shop work in the kitchen before.

I’ve done shop work in the kitchen today!

I remembered when I got a new girlfriend, that I’m not allowed to clean up auto parts in the dishwasher anymore too!

My wiring harness was modified in the kitchen at my parents. I also changed the transmission in the case of a 81 Yamaha SR250. The bike was ratchet strapped to the rafters on the porch to hold it up then the engine came inside for repairs. Mom wasn't happy about either. I was just glad to not be working outside in February after dark.

There's two cinder black that act as a step going into my shop. I've been saying for a long time that I was going to get rid of them for a concrete step / pad.

Today was finally that day.

"...one thing...one thing...leads to anooother....
Now you need to fix the threshold ;brownbag;

Seriously though, I don't have that much rebar in my entire garage floor. Nicely done.

I got that rebar from the grassy alley behind the shop. It's been laying in the grass back there for as long as I've lived here. I swear the damn thing was like 12' long.

Ya, I have been annoyed looking at that threshold as well. I'm thinking about cleaning the dirt out of those cinder blocks and putting concrete in there and smoothing it out. I really don't want to screw around with installing a threshold.

Sandy mortar mix, and mix in a half bottle of titebond. After you get it clean, brush the titebond across the top, and then smooth on the mortar. Maybe a little fiber mix mixed in

Afterthought: once you trowel it in and smooth it, wait a little, and then wet a facecloth and drag it across it for a nice even textured smooth finish.

Yes to the glue. Works great.

Why glue and mortar instead of cement??

Mortar mix has the fine sand in it. If you mix in tightbond, it’ll tremendously helps it adhere to the bottom, but also holds the whole mixture together better. And I don’t know what a bag of fiber Crete costs, cause you’ll only need a handful for that little job, but if you mix in the fiberglass threads, hopefully it will keep from cracking on something thin like that.

Pure Portland cement is a bonding agent, and does not have any structure. Whether it’s sand or gravel or whatever, when you mix it in with the Portland cement, that’s what gives it its strength. When you build a block wall, you offset the blocks. The Portland cement or mortar mix holds them together in between, but by overlapping the blocks, that’s what gives the wall a lot of his strength. On the doorsill, the little bits of sand are the blocks and will overlap each other, and make it stronger. The fiberglass fibers are like tiny bits of rebar.
