My idea of a Shelby Ranger if there would have been one.

Ok, just asking, I always wondered what would happen...

Post a bunch of pictures when you do the engine swap, but hopefully you can get the 4.0 fixed and running right.

I have cleaned all the pig tail connectors going down under the truck.. Still getting the code.... We figured it up and right now it's getting about 20 MPG..
It should do better.

20mpg is about what most 4.0 owners are saying they get. What makes you think it should be better?

Edit: I didn't mean that to sound like an ass, I'm just curious.

When I went from White Pine,Tn. to Nashville, Tn. for a doctors appt. I was in my BII running from 70 to 75 all the way, and we figured it up at 18 mpg, that's a 2.9 auto, and it was turning around 3k rpm's all the way, I need to check what gears it came with.

I'm hoping when I get the 4.0 in my Ranger, it will get better, it has a 3.27 rear end from a 92 Explorer.

I'm hoping that you can get the 4.0 in your Ranger running right, after all that work, I hate to see you have to tear in to again, be down for a few months.

my 98 expo with the 4.0 sohc and a 5 speed auto and 3:55 gears gets 12 mpg. 15 if i really try to be careful.

i need to do the front o2 sensors, but if your getting 20 your ahead of the game

Cause I have seen that engine get 27 MPG when it was in my DD 89 Ranger.

Finally!!!!!! I figured out the problem! Here is the deal. Over by the ECM there is a wiring harness that is wrapped in pink tape. It has 5 wires going into the pigtail that would accept a 4 prong pigtail. 2 of the 5 wires are grey with black stripes. the pigtail that plugs into it has one purple (I think) Wire. the other three spots in the pigtail are blank. Back to the 2 grey with black stripe. They both go into the same position on the pigtail. one was pulled loose and had the tip exposed with bare wire. Cranked the truck and checked the voltage on the exposed wire. 0 volts. Checked the other and had a reading. Since it didn't go anywhere I cut it out of the pigtail and wired the 2 G/B wires together and taped back to the harness to protect it. Cleared the codes with the Snap On scanner and test drove. Tested again code 111 No codes present. Test drove again about 7 miles or more and tested again. FIXED! I knew that wire was loose since I put the wiring in last year but thought it was no big deal since it didn't go to anything since the pigtail that connected to them was blank.
I would have never thought that would be the issue.. Like I said I knew it was pulled loose I just reconnected it as a last resort since nothing else worked. Goes to show usually the fix is somthing stupid simple. BTW if you clear the code and rescan it with out a test drive it comes back no codes present so code 245 was there on the first road trip... I only discovered it after the road trip to the air museum when I scanned it due to horrible fuel MPG the CEL hasn't been on sice the new 02 was installed...

New 02s should get you to 20 or more...

That sounds pretty good in a Bronco II.... A 3.27 should do pretty good.. I am hoping mine will do much better with a 3.08... I think I have it fixed now... Road trip tomorrow will find out..

That's awesome multi, about damn time your truck starts to smarten up!

Way to go, glad you got it fix, does that scanner work on a 89 BII with the 2.9 ?? and will it work on a 92 4.0 ???

Well, I guess now we won't get to see a 351 swap ?!?
