I installed an electric radiator fan in my Mazda b3000. Right now I have it running constantly when the vehicle is on. I had it wired to thermostat switch but it doesn’t turn on when the AC is on so that causes a problem with the AC pressure getting too high and possibly blowing the seal on the compressor. I’ve been doing research and found that I need to get a trinary switch. Has anyone ever installed a Trinary switch before? I can see that they have female and male primary switches to connect to either the dryer or somewhere else. Does anybody know a specific trinary switch that will fit.

not me. i have never even heard of that

It is a switch for your AC. You actually hook it up to wherever your high low switches. Mine is actually on the dryer I think or it’s called the accumulator. Anyways, it’s a three wire switch that allows your fan to turn on when the AC compressor is on. It seems that is the only way you can have a temperature switch and have it turned on with the AC compressor is on.

Here’s the website that I found the one I need for the truck. I would say that newer vehicles with electric fans usually have three or more wires my Mazda B3000 only has two because it had a belt driven fan.

Never hear of it. I just tapped into the positive wire at the compressor and used that to trigger a relay.

That's cool. I'll have to remember that.

Did you also run a wire from the temperature switch?

I installed a temperature switch in the lower radiator hose. My current setup is very similar to the tech article using the 2-speed Volvo temperature switch, except that I reverted back to one speed and I don't have AC any more.

So, similar but really different. The truck has evolved over the years. I also installed a fan cutoff switch in the cab so I can turn the fan off during deep water crossings - less stress on the plastic fan and it doesn't splash water up over the engine.

I should probably consider something like this.

Currently I have an e-fan in my Choptop. Since my temp gauge on the dash didn’t work anyway and I was trying to get it back among the living quickly I screwed the temp sensor into the intake in the stock position and just wired up to a three position toggle and an indicator light. That way I have where it will automatically cycle based on the temperature sensor, an off position, and an always on position. It’s only temporary until I can take care of some other things right now but I like the idea of being able to have the ability to do off or always on. I’ve also thought about rigging a timer so when I shut the truck off it will run for a minute or three.

I found a check valve and two grommets from advanced Auto Parts. I went to Napa and they didn’t have anything I didn’t go to any of the other parts stores, but this is where I found it. The smaller grommet is the one you want out of the package. It’s a little snug, but it will work. My advice is changed the check valve as well. I did not change the check valve and it was tighter than the other, even though they’re exactly the same size. You could probably put a little bit of grease on there to slide it in better.
I’ve shared the following product from Advance Auto Parts:
