My 94 Ranger Recovery

Well looks like a dana 60 hd found a new home in the back of my ranger today.

Im going to drop some coin on gears front and rear hopefully this week and get a new shorter front shaft sent too.

So ill be running 8 lug rear and 5 on 5.5 front in the mean time. I plan on 8 lug swapping the 44 later on and i have 15" 8 lugs i can mix in for the time being.

So my plans for the truck are to be my temp DD till i find a new truck to use as a tow rig.
Ranger ultimately will be running 36-38s for trails and my 40s for sand only.

Well i finally made up my mind.

Sold narrowed 44 1/2 ton for more than i bought it.

Picked up a HP 3/4 ton Full width

Heres a teaser

ya ill have better daylight pics tommorow. i work till 6pm so i dont get much light. Tires sit with about 7.5" outside of each fender flare. Those are my wide wheels too so on road ill have a set of 8" with 4"bs it'l be a lil more cop friendly lol

Well i havent had much time to be abe to do things until my boss gave me friday off.
Got the front gutted. Thanks to the use of a snapon air hammer, those rivets didnt stand a chance.

I currently have some S10 rears in the front but will be removing those for explorer rears tommorow. The S10 springs sit too flat, about 2.5" lower than the rear and i fear ill snap or bend the spring end.

I ended up having to do shackle forward like heeps due to the frame bends dont allow room for a rear shackle or else the pinion will shoot at the ground.

Frame mounts where a bit of a challenge but i got it figured out finally. Lots of bracing to be added soon as i get more welding wire. all bolts in the springs are only mock up till i get new grade 8 and my u bolts are upside down just for mockup purposes as well.

Also had to grind calipers like i did one my 1 ton forgot how much of a PITA it is. For now due to funds im going to use a 1/2 ton tie rod with the factory style crossover steering. Im going to go to full high steer when funds exist.

Heres a couple if misc images ive snapped in the daylight. These are all clickable thumbnails that lead to my photobucket of all my other ranger pics.

Funny how those last two pics make it look 3' wide hmmm... maybe a pinch in the future.

Enjoy

looks like a d44....not sure i would be comfortable with 40 in boggers on that.

i suggest to cut the s10 mains to fully support the explorer mains from past eye to past eye, or maybe just run some chevy fronts with a 2 in lift, or chevy 52's.

i instantly wasted unsupported sploder springs which is why i suggest it...even mid beefed i busted some and a front shaft.

Thanks for the advice on the springs. I was thinking of doing that with the old main leaf off my rangers old rear pack. I will def bastard pack the explorers with some of those s10 for added support.

As for the dada 44, it will be fine. We rock 40s on dana 44s here and they do fine. Not as much rock crawling around here. We do have lots of sand dunes and muddy trails tho.

And since im getting married in 10 months, i cant spend any un approved money right now. So if i "somehow" break a shaft etc i guess i get to upgrade to some ctms and chromoly lol

Well not too happy with the shackle placement but not really a good place for it.
Im going to def look into a link setup eventually in the front, but till then i wont do alot of rock crawling lol.

Gears got put on hold due to i just got laid off so im goin to look into another job asap.
She rolls under her own power just need to finish up a few things.
Heres my list of to do's and i should be good.

Gears
Finish bracing and weld any suspension mounts
Drill spring mounts to proper size and install grade 8 bolts
New front shackles
Crossover steering
Front driveline
Shocks
Finish front bumper mounts
Modify gas tank skid for driveline
Finish weld spring perches on rear axle
Trim center pins
Bleed brakes
Paint paint paint
And probably more than i can think of right now

Bumper modified to fit, really cleans it up alot. Still have more attaching points to make for it.

Shackle angle dont look to bad now

Final placement of axle clears the 39.5's nicely

Welp back to the lab :icon_welder:

Brought her home today. Gonna yank off the pass side knuckle and drop it of at SKYs this week to machine it for steering arm

How long we're those s10 leafs and what were the lengths to the center pin?

I ended up ditching them, too soft. It sagged down to below stock ttb height. Im running 78-79 6" f250 springs now with 3 leafs removed. Im thinking of swapping to some chevy 54's tho

What width are those boggers!?! they look bauss :D

Keep up the good work

Oh ya i traded my 39.5's off for a brand new set of 38.5 11 16 Boggers. Those are mounted on a 9" wheel. I plan on doing some beadlocks which will set it about 10" wide

Are the leaves off the front or rear of a f250? And are they too stiff being that it's 3" wide?

I REALLY like the look of a tall narrow tire. Your new boggers look sweet :icon_thumby: I have always thought 33x10.5s, and 37x12.5 sized tires look proportionally really good. Wide tires (like 33x12.5, 35x14.5, ect) don't do a whole lot for me aesthetically..I know they have their place and application though.

Can't wait to see the swap done :D

Ya a wide tire looks good on a full size but i will miss the ability to most likely float with the ol 18 wides lol. Ugh i really need to get back working on my ranger, its almost fully bolted in but i been working on building a 460 for my crew cab. And this damn rain wont stop.
