My $3,500 Jaguar - The 'Mad Jag'

We just impounded one of these yesterday (along with a Maserati) from a drug deal gone bad. Sorry, I’m not allowed to post pics of impounds, but it has big chrome wheels with rubber band tires.

Like......

Opened with so much force it broke the plastic clips on the end.

Opened with so much force the lid popped up and smacked a guys wife in the head when she opened it.

Now you've got me poking around car ads...

Ran great! Shut it off at the store and it won't run now. We took it to Jag of Asheville and they couldn't figure it out. Maybe a sensor? Great for parts or maybe you can figure it out.....

Oh wow yeah, nobody needs a concussion trying to load stuff in the trunk lol.

One of the 2001 Jaguar XJ8 engine problems reported is that the plastic timing chain tensioners may fail and cause engine damage. A failed water pump is the next common problem reported. Because the timing chain tensioners were made from plastic, they can fail prematurely and cause serious engine damage. A noticeable engine noise while idling or during a cold start can indicate a timing chain tensioner problem. The engine noise may also be accompanied by a rough or uneven engine idle. When the water pump fails, it will not be able to circulate coolant through the engine block. This results in an overheating situation and if not repaired or replaced quickly, can cause additional engine damage like cracked cylinder heads, pushed head gaskets, or burnt pistons.

Jaguar upgraded the cam tensioner to metal in August 2001.

They switched to an aluminum body in 2003. That model your looking at has more luxury features such as trays in the back of the front seat that folds down for the passengers in the back.

shipping delays have got real bad here, Im expecting a delivery from summit today that I ordered last week, used to be if I placed a order by 9 am it would show up next day by 2 pm- without paying a premium for “next day service”. Rock auto stuff seems to be about the same, usually 5/7 days out. Havent ordered from jegs in a while, they were usually about the same as summit.

Wood propping the trunk lid is a standard feature.

Jaaaaaaaaaaag 😎
What I did on my Bronco II rear hatch was to find a piece of PVC pipe that just fit around the shock strut. I cut it to length to where it was exactly the same as the length of the chrome rod extended with the hatch up. I then took the wore out shock off, slipped the PVC up onto the shock, and then re-installed the shock with the PVC floating on it.

Now when I lift the hatch up, I just make sure the PVC pipe has slid down onto the chrome part of the shock. When it does that it slides to one side and blocks the shock from retracting, holding the hatch up. When I want to close the hatch I just raise the hatch up a little bit, lift the PVC pipe up and get it started on the large part of the shock, and let the hatch down.

It would have to be here in town for me to seriously consider it. That's a good four hours away, so it's more about curiosity than anything else.

Yours does look like a fun project though.

How about a 575 Horsepower LS3 Jaguar XJ8??
