my 1966 Mustang (not a RBV) Lots of pictures!!

the pony upholstery will fit the frame of the seats but the foam is different. So pony seat upholstery won't fit the standard foam correctly.

and the partial vin you listed means
6 1966
F built in Dearborn MI
07 2 door hardtop
C 289 2 barrel

I know that i have the autolite 2100 carb on the top of the engine. Vin starts with 6f07c
I will probably only do the seats as I kind of like the white on black look, but it probably depends on what color I decide to paint the outside. I am leaning towards a red, but the car is originally maroon. Maroon looks a lot like purple to me and I am restoring this car for me and it doesn't have to be original to meet my requirements :)

I was thinking of the rest of the codes, you know, he fun stuff like date, DSO, interior, axle. If it's a standard-interior coupe with a 289 2-barrel it would have to be 6F07C, 6R07C or 6T07C (Dearborn, San Jose or Metuchen, respectively).

The maroon (actually called "Vintage Burgundy") can look kind of purple in certain lights, but it's pretty when there's a secondary color to set it off (like a white top or a GT stripe, like this one:

even though those standard wheel-covers and whitewalls look odd on a GT fastback. I love the curve of the rear window on this particular car!

That's true; I would definitely get new foam with the new upholstery anyway. Makes the seats much nicer as the foam gets tired and flat after a while.

6f07c172128 was the whole thing I must have gotten distracted in my hard tech supporting :) Yep if i am spending money on new upholstry I will probably do new foam

The last part of the vin is just what number car it is. Like it was the 172,128th car made in '66. But i agree the fun stuff are the other codes. I myself like the '65/'66 fastbacks in black and gold (Gt350H) or in a dark blue.

So I have been doing some reading today, and it looks like I might go with a V6 T5 from about a 1994 Mustang. I can get one for about $300, compared to the $700 for one that was behind a V8. It also has a longer bell housing which I have read pushes the stick back into the stock hole. The V6 T5 is also supposed to be good up to 265lbs/ft. It looks like if I keep the 289 I will need a 164 tooth 28 oz flywheel, which I have found in a 90s model F150 with a 351w SACHS Part # NFW1129 on Rockauto. I would then have to get a starter, and clutch kit that matches it. Any opinions?

Almost got the quarter panel completely welded on the passenger side this week, as well disk brakes on the passenger side front of the car. Hopefully this weekend I can get the drivers side disk brake on too.

I patched the trunk extension and cut the old wheel house off, cleaned all the rust up and got it painted, but I just have the new wheel house clamped on until i can get it and the quarter panel all lined up together. The bad thing about it is after I figure out where the wheel house goes for sure I will have to take the quarter panel back off to weld the wheel house on for good

It can be a major pain working with offshore panels, I had to do a fair bit of rework to get everything to line up properly when I was doing a 66 Convertible :icon_welder::icon_welder: I ended up having to cut sections out of the wheelhouse etc

How hard is it to stuff a 351w fuel injected in one of these from an econoline van?

Yo,
I don't think it would be difficult to put the engine in there, but being from a van, you might have to do something else with the intake.

The wiring would be the other snag. I know painless makes a wiring harness for putting an EFI into an older mustang. On my 69' I am going to try to keep everything carb for simplicity. But I don't think it would be much to take that engine and convert it to carb if you wanted to go that route.

I built my shed and got the garage cleaned out so I am ready to start working on this again. I ran in on a snag on my disk brakes. Some how I had managed to order some 4 lug rotors and didn't realized until I had everything buttoned up and tried to put the wheel on it. It took me a few minutes to figure it out, but I certainly felt like an idiot after wards. The 4 lug rotors I got were only 10" and the 5 lug ones are 11", so I had to scrap the bracket that I made and order a new one. Luckily I had taken it 1 side at a time. This is the guide I am following

I also picked up a fuel injected 302 and an AOD transmission. I am still uncertain if I am going to go with the auto or a t5, but that is later down the road.
