my 1966 Mustang (not a RBV) Lots of pictures!!

hows it going the 66 mustang is one of my dream cars. i like it when somebody does the kind of work you are doin. good luck the car is going to look great.

It's sitting out in the snow. I thought I would replace an engine in a Grand Prix to make a little bit of money quick. Turns out I got burnt on the motor and the guy is refusing to take the engine back or give me back some money

dude that sucks.

Yo,
Nice! I picked up a 69' stang a few months ago slowly but surely its comming together, when I get the pics put together, I'll start a build too. If that engine is origonal to the car, it would deffinatley be worth rebuilding. Cars with matching numbers are always worth a lot more. Where are you getting most of your parts?

ooops, luggage rack is already in the scrap pile outside

i dont like the lugguage rack so im voting trash it lol. and paint it some sweet color like orange or green and silver stripes like the fast n furious 3 fastback
those were sweet colors

I am getting most of my parts from mustangs unlimited. A part of me wants to restore it back to original, but I really want to put a fuel injected motor in it and ditch the carb. I also want to put an over drive transmission in it and between those 2 I might be able to afford driving it every once and awhile.

Does anybody know if the pony seat upholstery and standard seat upholstery will interchange? I currently have the standard, but I was looking at the pony seats and I kind of like the black/white mid pattern.

they take different foam.
I'm working on a '67 mustang fastback currently but i'm alot slower than you are. I got the new passengers floor and part of the frame in and I currently have the rusted drivers floor cut out and i'm working on getting the torque box out.

boo to fuel injection, its a 66, back when cars were simple why complicate things. fuel injection requires a computer and gadgetry to tune and tweak, while a good old carb just takes a screwdriver:icon_thumby:

I'm a young guy tho, and this is my first carbed car. I just prefer the fuel injection as there's not really much adjustment to it. You just hook it up and it just works. The initial install of the fuel injection might be slightly rough, but I think in the long run it will be worth it.

Nice Mustang. Love the black interior. It gives you a lot of choice when choosing an exterior color, vs. other colors that are more limiting. Also nice that you have an original V-8 car. There were lots of 6-cylinder cars built in '66 as the Mustang was so popular that Ford had a hard time building enough 289s to meet demand. Ford even built the Sports Sprint (to celebrate the millionth Mustang built) package to sex up the sixes.

There were only two engine sizes available in '66: 200 and 289 cid, with three versions of the 289 available. The C code is 2 barrel (regular fuel, 200 hp), the A code is 4 barrel (premium fuel, 225 hp) and the K code is the solid-lifter "High Performance" (271 horsepower). The 200 code is T.

Shoot a photo or jot down the codes on your door data plate (the VIN is also stamped on the top of the left inner fender, usually twice) and I can decipher them, if you've not done it already.

My father had a 1965 convertible in light blue. He loved that car, only had a 289 and the three speed though. We'll be watching this build and good luck!

Yes, the seats are the same, so Pony upholstery will fit. There were some other components that make up a Pony interior (wood-grain instrument cluster/glove box door, the wood-grain steering wheel, the "pistol grip" door handles, courtesy lights in the doors, the console trim [if you've got a console; it was a stand-alone option] the door trim panels themselves and the carpeted/trimmed kick panels), but just changing the seats to Pony upholstery looks good.

It was a lot of stuff for the $94 Ford charged for it back in '66, but a V-8 engine only cost $105 over the six.

I know that i have the autolite 2100 carb on the top of the engine. Vin starts with 6f07c
I will probably only do the seats as I kind of like the white on black look, but it probably depends on what color I decide to paint the outside. I am leaning towards a red, but the car is originally maroon. Maroon looks a lot like purple to me and I am restoring this car for me and it doesn't have to be original to meet my requirements :)
