Mode Door Actuator

New to the forum.. I’ve owned a 2006 Ranger 4.0 for a year and a half.

wondering here if anyone could advise- My ac/heater is blowing to the defrost vents only, no matter what mode I select. Ac blows cold and heater blows hot. Fan speeds work nicely. Done a fair share of research and all suggest I may need to replace my mode door actuator but when I look for this part (I usually get all my parts from rock auto or eBay motors) I only see blend door actuators. As I understand the blend door actuator is what controls the temperature not which vents the air comes through. Questions is- does the blend door actuator also control the vents and is part of the same unit? If not, any clues?

Hello Kedsonn,

I can't answer your question exactly. 90% of those little stepper motors are all called the same generic "blend door" actuator motors. The term "mode door" is most likely the same as what they are describing. Confusing agreed. I would start at the dealer, or factory documentation & get a part number starting there. My 07 had the MAX AC only symptom which was the blend door behind the glove box issue. OEM Ford Parts Online sometimes has diagrams to assist you. I agree, there is not much on the internet with a quick search. There is quite a bit of returns from TRS however.

If you are able to feel the difference between heat and cold then it is not your blend door. Start looking for the white and black vacuum lines under your blower motor and make sure you do not have a break or kink in the lines. Also check your vacuum reservoir for leaks. I am dealing with the same issue right now and I am just waiting for Friday to order new lines, reservoir and ac mode selection switch to see if one of those solves my problem.

Thanks for the insight. Even AI couldn’t give me the right answer. You’re right they seem to be the same. I read the description in a blend door actuator part and it stated that it operated both functions.

awesome input. So the actuator must be working meaning I don’t need to replace it. I’ll check out my lines and vscuum reservoir tomorrow.
mid you have any further insight on Friday, I’d like to hear.
