Do it. The problem is more than likely the timing belt, so easy to fix.

That's what I thought bad belt tensioner and the thing hopped time

More likely the belt just snapped. It can run out of time by a tooth or two, it won't run at all if the belt breaks.

At least the 2.3 Lima was non-interference.
