mega squirting the 2.9

I think "ground all sensors to the MS" and "don't assume factory wiring is good" are separate points.

If you're already buying all new sensors, or always intended to clean up/minimalize your harness, sure, run all new wiring. If you're keeping factory sensors and factory pigtails, I personally wouldn't assume factory wiring is shitty unless it's crumbling away in front of me, or something doesn't work right.

if a truck is 20 salt belt winters old. all wiring is shitty. and the horse it rode in on.....and the horses mom.

Now that’s some truth right there

I have some exiting news to tell everyone here! I have finally done it ecu is finally wired in the tune is great good fuel mileage feels like I got more power I got rev limiter too! sounds super gnarly I have so much more plans to do with this engine I honestly can’t wait planing on putting the ignition setup off a 3.0 so I can it can be more efficient after that next stop is turbo time

Oh hi 😁

For added fun, turn off decel fuel cut, adjust timing to 0 or like 5-10 post TDC, and add a Flowmaster ricer muffler

*burble burble burble pop pop pop*

Awesome you got the cologne running on MS. They're an absolute animal with it.

I'd sure like to dabble in this...

Not sure it will ever happen though.

It's not as hard as you think, just tedious.

The A9L tune is very close to a "basic get it running" 2.9 tune. Just have to adjust for less up and downy bits.

Otherwise, you're halfway there and running with some translations from the base tune.

The 2.9 likes timing, but will predetonate with 87 with too much time. 91 fuel helps a bit, the engine absolutely loves methanol, but your oil doesn't. Keep thermostat at 180 - 190 and run an OPEN LOOP catch can if you feed it meth. Just adjust IAC to make up for open loop (valve cover breather on one side, then other valve cover to catch can to intake manifold on other). Keep the oil mist out, it's octane rating is 40-48. I've run it on 110 a few times, not worth it, no real advantages. Smells great tho.

I got a straight though magnaflow with resonator and cat delete so I think that would sound oh so nice I’m gonna do that would it hurt my fuel mileage at all? Another question when I’m higher up on the rpm’s like 5 grand ish 6500 for too long I collapsed a lifter but it goes back to normal letting it sit or just sending even more then just like magic it fixes it self

Here’s a link to the first donut I did with the ecu lol https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FUZAOLz3yyfVmAKNHDcXROsNIT38dejg/view?usp=sharing

Set at 0 IIRC for burble. Software should let you delay fuel cut so it doesnt go on forever.

Valvoline Restore and Protect oil stands a chance to stand lifter back up. Good stuff. Just change after 1k mi first use, then 3500ish interval afterwards.

FE block lifters fit. Some very good anti collapse options there due to FE being a preferred race motor nowadays. But have to pull heads, etc. Reinforced pushrods exist.

Capri guys say motor can do 7 grand but extensive balance work needed first.

Focus on getting time/fuel right. Motor tolerates some detonation but will expire from extensive.

Well done with getting it going. Makes me smile *a lot* knowing there are two of us now 😁

Alr thanks for the info appreciate it I hope that oil makes it last longer I’m currently running 15w 40 I was going to add a oil accumulator so when I’m doing donuts it wouldnt starve the oil pump,

Later down the line I’m gonna pull the heads and do a top end refresh I have a extra set of heads I’m planing on putting in it with 4.0 valves and rockers if I change the lifters would it be wise to change the cam too?

Shoot I need to do that lol she feels like it wants more rpm I am glad I wasn’t a fool and set rev limiter to way beyond

if you don’t mind me asking do you have a picture of your timing table?

Me too honestly seen some uneducated person talking about how it’s the worst truck engine ever I got heated lol my 2.9 never let me down 431.172 k later still trucking along

Can get you time and fuel tables... keep in mind I had methanol though. So timing is appropriate to methanol injection. There are non methanol ones posted here by me either in my build thread or in the 2.9 ms thread.

Application dictates chemistry on all engines. Extra viscosity probably doesn't hurt anything. The R&P seems to be good stuff so far tho...

Depending on year, check your cam. Mine was SMOKED when I pulled it. 90s-early 2000s they took the zddp out of oil without reformulating with appropriate molybdenum. Modern sp grade oil fixed this, but not after damage was done. Zddp additives tend to corrode your engine so I'd avoid. Long story. Run SP graded stuff. Should be fine. Cams are notably soft tho. Sometimes lifter tick is lobe wear. Mine was. I made the famous free floating rockers a few years back. Still haven't run them tho. I made a thread on how to do it. Should help with top end oiling with high volume pump.

All cologne pushrod - v4, 2.6, 2.8, 2.9, 4.0 seem to have top end oiling issues. No big deal with intelligent modification. SOHC and DOHC seem to not have issues with oiling.

Much better engine than most understand. Geoff Kershaw won a *lot* of races on one without issue. Twin turbo setup on a BOA/BOB DOHC setup. Insane car. Very fast.
