Mazda B2500 sppedometer and Check Eng Lite

My 2000 B2500 speedometer now only works above 50 MPH. Odometer only works when speedometer works. Check engine light stays on all the time. It started acting up about the same time as the speedometer.
I have read that the VSS is a strong candidate for the source of these problems; however I have noted that the CEL stays on even when the speedometer is operating properly ( above 50 MPH). Is the VSS still the culprit?

Can't say for sure about the VSS, but my Sidekick got a CEL when the speedo cable broke...so likely in either the sensor...but I'm sure someone will let you know...
