Manual T case w/Full length console

I am hoping to spend less than 25 since there is a chance of me screwing it up first time around and I am only paying 50 for the t case in the first place.

I am going to look around at the JY when I go home this weekend and Ill get back with you, but 35-40 wouldnt be all that bad if I cant find anything.

I may be a little late on this, but what about getting a Grey or Beige console to hack apart first? Then just transfer the final cut to the blue one?

I thought about that, but I dont have the extra cash to throw around at the moment.

Well, I got the 1354M and got it put in, but I still havnt got a shifter. I just wanted to build a little more suspense.:icon_twisted:

It looked like hell when I brought it home, so I cleaned it up and drained it, then filled it up with full synthetic. All the seals look good. It looks like all the dirt, grease, and grime was form the auto tranny it was bolted to. It shifts nice and easy with a pair if visegrips, and when locked into a gear there isnt any play in the input shaft.

I finally got a hold of a shifter. I got it off a B II with an A4LD and a 1350 case, I have been told it wont work, but I am going to give it a try anyway. Im sure I can make it work:icon_welder:.

Worst part is, Im 2 hrs from my shop and wont be home to mess with it until Friday.:annoyed:

I was trying to get the lever apart, but my one 3/8 wrench didnt have the leverage and it was going to round off the lever if I applied any torque. So I got creative.

I was able to use 1350 shifter and linkage. The bottom of the shifter itself would hit the transmission housing preventing it from going into 2 wheel and 2 hi, so I had to trim about a 1/4" off the shifter base.
The yellow is what I had to trim off. I welded the lever on the backside since I ground so much off the edge where the lever is pressed in.

My next issue was the little arm on the tcase. The shifter was lined up with it rather than being offset, so I had to cut the arm and offset it.

I also threaded the stud, so I could put a nut on it incase it trys to flex and pop out

Its hard to see, but this is where the lever had to be trimmed to clear the tranny

I was able to cut my hole dead on the first time :yahoo: I measured the where the handle was in relation to the bolt holes so I could mark out my hole. Then after I got the plate cut I used it as a pattern for the floor.

The lever is hardly inside the the console.

The hole is completely hidden.

Here what I started with

heres what I ended with, its offest about 2"

I cut the threaded prortion off off the stock shifter and welded it to a peice of 1/2" rod that I put 90* in.

I Had to trim the console out a good bit
1120091518.jpg

The lever is almost touching flloor in 2 hi, but 4 lo it is 1" away.

I made it hug the console to keep it away from leg.

I spoke to soon when I said I cut the hole perfect on my first try. It turns out I didnt make it wide enough, so when I had everything back together and went for a test drive, I found out that when I give it a little gas the transmission torques a little and the lever rubbed the edge of the hole making a terrible scratching/popping noise. So I had to take everything apart again to trim it up a little bit.:annoyed:

I am still playing around with different boot ideas, I am using a piece of rubber that I cut slits in, but it doesnt flop down arounf the lever very well. I am looking for some sort of brush or boot from a car with a hand operated e-brake.

Hey, that turned out looking ok.

Nice work. :icon_thumby:

I would say brushes would work out fine.

Early to mid '90s Pontiac Grand Am's have brushes around the e-brake. Also the early to mid '90s F-150s have the brushes around the interior door levers.

Nice work, I've been curious about this for the ex. I just have to find someone with a shop to do a 90 on a piece of rod so I put a manual case in the truck.
