got tired of it being cold and considering they are calling for 20 degree high's for the week so i decided to get some heat going out there

started with 2 55 gallon drums and a cast door from a local farm store

started cutting and welding and this is what i came up with

from what im told this thing should heat my 30x40 realll nice

btw welding on the drums suck lol they are real thin!

Love it!

Looks a little odd, but I'm sure that thing will be very efficient!

nothing wrong with being a little odd :D

i hope so that floor is ****in cold!

Sweet! lol My dad got some fancy one for ours its pretty cool... But I like that one. lol

well said and done im only going to have 100 bucks in the whole setup...so im more then happy with how it turned out

Here a dumb question but whats the top barrel for and whats it's suppose to do??

Top barrel recuperates heat from the exhaust. This kinda acts like a furnace. Since the fumes escaping the burn chamber is still pretty hot, having it stay a little extra time in the 2nd barrel will actually radiate more heat.

yup exactly right the top barrel is pretty much just a heatsink pulling as much heat out of the air coming out of the bottom barrel...if i had a 3rd barrel laying around i probably would have even thrown it on there but 2 was all i had

also after reading around when i put it in the garage im going to stack blocks and bricks around the bottom barrel...once the fire dies down and even after it goes out the blocks will dissioate heat that was soaked into them while it was going hot...

hopefully it all works good, if i get a chance tommarow gunna fire up the chainsaw and barrow a buddies wood splitter and get me a nice sized pile going

My dad found ours for like 300 and had it sandblasted and stuff...

But for 100 bucks, you just can't beat that.

i may strip the whole thing down and hit it with some high heat paint, not sure yet...it wont be fun because the paint on the barrels is atleast 3-4 layers thick

we had one of those in our work shed growin' up....they do work well:icon_thumby:

as for stripping it...just let the heat burn it off and spray with some high temp black....all we ever did....

and before ya leave the shop....the damper is your friend:icon_thumby:

Nice stove!
I wouldnt waste the time or paint, leave it outside and build a cod roaster in it.That will help with the old paint stinking up your shop.

My 81 is in a neighbors shop for the motor swap, only have 2 propane heaters in it,hard to get anything done with snot running out of your nose all day.
I think my nads have turned a nice shade of ford blue a couple of times.
