made me a wood burner for the garage...

i may strip the whole thing down and hit it with some high heat paint, not sure yet...it wont be fun because the paint on the barrels is atleast 3-4 layers thick

Well he got it cheap cause it was rusted pretty bad, and we sandblasted it at the city shop, My friends dad works there as does my dads friend so it was cheap...

We use those as burn barrels I would just get it going really hot outside and let the paint burn off. The hit it up with the high heat paint and get her roaring again! :icon_thumby:

yea i tried getting it to burn some off last night but just didnt have very much good wood (jumped the neighbors fence and stole a log, lol its cool were pretty good buddies)

im probably running across the river to indiana to find my fire wood stash from last year and keep an eye out for some other downed trees

I just finished my garage it is only 24 x 24 and built with SIP panels (structural insulated panels), insulated doors and dual pane windows, I can heat it with a small electric space heater.

i bet!, im going to end up insolating it better come summer time just dont have the money now

very nice..glad to see others being creative.I made one for a buddy of mine and i put pieces of 2inch exhaust tubeing in the top barrel from front to back with a fan mounted on the back to act as a heat exchanger and it works great.

I built one of those about 15 years ago...just used the bolts, didn't weld it. Wish I had, the bolts on the legs kept coming loose, and the bolts on the damper were a *****!

yea i started to bolt the dampner on but i figured it would leak pretty bad so i welded it...im gunna weld the door when i get time dont want this thing to leak any or have to worry about getting any sparks coming out

are you piping the exhaust outside?

lol yea its going straight up to the roof...its not in its final location yet

i actually started to do that but i didnt have enough tubing around to do much good, i still may end up doing it before i have it in place to help out some

That how my dad's stove for his garage looked like. He had it for years and years until the insurance place wouldn't cover it since it's not a safe stove. He tossed it and bought a smaller nice one. It didn't belt out the heat he needed for the garage.

So, I made one for him as a college assignment (welders had to draw, fabricate, and weld something together). It was made out of 1/8" steel and it looked like a giant mailbox; square bottom, round top for heat transfer.

well hopefully it will do what i need...im not looking to get 70 degrees on a 10 degree day but just need it comfortable where i dont have to wear gloves and not have to have 10 layers on

Oh, it'll heat that garage in no time!!

I don't know how the homeowners insurance works in KY, but up here in MN, they absolutely will not cover barrel stoves. It's too thin and inconsistently made, increasing the risk for a fire hazard(or so the insurance told my dad).

just one barrel heated my 30 x 40 just fine with 12 ft ceilings...make sure you put the exahust out the other end of the top barrel so the heat has to move through the barrel before going up . and put about 3 or 4 inches of sand in the bottom under your fire grate. dont worry about paint, it wont stay on there anyway..lol
