I need to change my tranny fluid. Looks/smells like the previous owner filled it with gear oil rather than ATF(it's leaking from the shift rail plugs). The fill plug is totally mangled and torqued on there like crazy. I don't have the tools or money to pay someone to remove it. Is the small bolt behind the fill plug some sort of fluid level sight? Could I remove the small bolt and fill from the shifter until it pours out? I don't want to remove the bolt when I don't know what it's there for.

If that's not the case, I guess I will have to fill from the shifter and hope I don't under/over fill it. Does anyone know the exact fluid capacity of the m50d?

I appreciate the help.

Smaller bolts are retaining bolts for parts inside the trans, in most cases, so not a good idea to pull them out.

2.8 quarts fluid capacity. if memory serves fill plug is 24mm

they are 24mm, but if it's stripped and torqued to the point where you can't get it out you could fill it through the shifter inside the cab. Just take the shifter console out and pull the shifter out and you'll be all set. Be careful not to overfill it since you won't be able to tell how full it is.
