Looking in to doing a 302 swap, NEED info???

Unless you REALLY need the overdrive, I wouldn't bother with the AOD in stock form. A lentech valvebody will re-route the fluids to allow a 1-2-D/OD shift pattern vs. the 1-D-OD (uses a solenoid and switch for OD). The inner input shaft responsible for the direct drive of 3rd and 4th is also a weak point. When shifting hard from a torque converter powered 2nd gear to a direct drive 3rd gear, you can snap the shaft. A lentech valvebody will hold 1st and reverse bands (which allows 3rd gear to be powered by the outer torque converter shaft) but your overdrive is still weak.

I chose a C4 because its smaller, lighter, and draws about 18-20 hp instead of the AOD's bloodsucking 55-60!

Will a C4 handle the horse power/torque of a 351C for daily driving and weekend drag racing?

How much hp does a C6 draw from the engine? I've heard that a C6 is more durabable but less efficient than a C4.

I am removing the AOD from my 351C Ranger and I am going to buy a C4 or a C6, not sure which yet. Open to suggestions. Anyone?

Trust me, it doesn't have Boss 302 heads. But look at the valve covers anyway. Windsors have 6 bolts holding the covers to the heads. Clevelands have 8. 85-90's should be a roller block, but depending on what it's originally out of, may or may not have a roller cam.

Well my friend (who is giving me the 302) said he bought it from a guy who had it in his mustang(fox body?) and I think actually put the cleveland heads on himself, and it's got an aftermarket cam in it, so definetley ain't completely stock.

:dunno:Count the valve cover bolts. If it does have Cleveland heads, then it's definately a keeper.:icon_thumby:

For budget, a C6 will handle the torque of a cleveland with just a shift kit and a cooling upgrade. But the C6 takes just about the same power to turn as the AOD.

For a little bit bigger budget, you can upgrade the C4 to handle a street 351c. Invest in a new valvebody, high performance clutches and bands, and again the cooling and your C4 will handle 400hp.

For me, I opted for a TCI super streetfighter C4 with manual valvbody (650hp rating) for a hair over 1200 bones. Why? Well, I've got future plans to push that limit...

I really appreciate the information. Thank you. :icon_thumby:

Guess what, I went to go look at the motor, and I couldn't find. I don't know what happened to it, but the guy I was going to get it from hadn't seen the motor in like ten years, and he said it might not be there though.

I'm probably going to look for another motor, If I went carbed, how hard would it be to adapt the carb setup to a EFI-type fuel pump? Oh yea, originalnitro thanks for the info, did you get 21 mpg with the AOD, or the C4, and what headers did you use for your 302/347?

use a bypass regilator and the trans was AOD and a 302 bored 60 over the headers are the P.O.S. headman 89500 have seen hookers 6802hkr in the past but now summit cant get them still looking for a good set.carb was a 670 street avenger.

Thanks originalnitro, if I use a carb I think it'll be an edelbrock performer 500cfm or 600cfm carb, I think I found the hooker headers #6802 on jegs which is #520-6802 on their website, oh, and as far as the electrical system, how did you solve that?

P.S.-originalnitro, did you have a 2.3, 2.9, 3.0, or a 4.0 originaly?

Oh yea, I have a friend who has a wrecked 67' stang in his drive, it has a three speed auto behind a 200ci I6, I assume it is a c4 that it has a windsor v8 bolt pattern, does anybody know if it would work??? and going about 55-60 mph highway average, with a 3.73 rear end, would I get maybe 18-23 mpg if I was easy on the pedal?

The C-4 will work, but you're not going to get that kind of mileage on the highway with 3.73's. Mine's got a carbed Explorer level 5.0 with no overdrive, 3.73's and 28" tires (tire height determines the final drive ratio too) and it gets about 15-16 mpg.

mine was originaly a 2.3, will have to check JEGS,if you want to keep simple get a points type distributor and a pertronix ignitor 2 wire hookup
i'm running a MSD dist, 6AL box, blaster 2 coil easy to wire but much higher price.

Yea I think I'll keep it simple, and do you think I could get a hold of a 3.54 or so axle pretty easy(sorry about so many questions, I'm kind of an ametuer as far as ford v8s and ect.)
