Any serious cons?

Thanks again.

Anything with a manual transmission is a pro. Not sure about any cons.

I'm glad to hear that about the manuals.

What about the engine? I was told the 04/05 had riming chain guide issues but that they were resolved in '06.

From what I heard and read that is correct about the timing issue. It was from like 99 to 05?? Ish. Should be good in a 10. BTW the manual thing is just personal opinion. I look long and hard for a manual tranny as opposed to a slushbox

Ive looked and high and low too. They are hard to come by. Im not to excited about it 4x4 because its only gonna jack up my insurance, Im never gonna use it and its gonna decrease my fuel mileage. But ill take that hit.

Mileage doesn't drop too much with 4x4 and the 4.0 OHC motor. My new to me 2003 manual 4x4 w/4.10 gears gets 19.5 mpg usually. Running 10.5x31 tires also. This came with manual but prefer auto.

I know it aint much but I'm never going to use it. Its only going to be a handicap for me. Doesnt it also drop the tow cap?

Only drops capacity couple hundred, not like the difference between auto and manual.

Yeah but still, id MUCH rather have that extra couloe hundred than 4x4.

The auto has a lower tow cap, right?

Auto has a higher tow capacity according to the owners manual. Realistically, I'd rather have the manual for towing, but it gets a lighter rating for the simple fact that Ford doesn't want someone who sucks at driving a manual toasting the clutch hauling and complaining about it.

That said, I hauled a couple Bronco IIs and a YJ Jeep behind my manual Ranger and never got questioned or stopped. All told, I probably logged about 2,000 miles hauling them all told. Now I have bigger toys to do the main hauling, but back then, I made do with what I had. Hauled a 14' box truck behind my manual F-150 awhile back, went past no less than 4 cops in about 35 miles and none stopped. As long as you look like you're doing it right, I don't think most of them are too worried.

That makes sense.

Im not looking to haul often with it but I do want the capabilities to carry a good bit of weight. I do have landscaping plans that include a short, single tier terrance. Ive already been looking into minor upgrades. Intake, exhaust, rear disc brakes, bigger diff cover, high quality trans and diff oil will be done. The truck I am going to look at tomorrow does have a tow hitch. If its not atleast a class III, I'll be swapping it. On the far end of the spectrum, MAYBE a tune, better clutch and air springs in the rear. And as for my 4x4 dilema, im sure I could convert it to 2x4 in the future.

So we're here looking at the truck.

CD player doesnt work, it has a CEL (P0155. Heating sensor, bank 2, sensor 1) and it has a tire pressure light. Tires are inflated though.

I bought it
