Lets see those roof racks. I would like to build a very low profile one for my B2. I am thinking it will be similar to a land rover disco type. Mounts to the drip rails and could provide some side window protection and also hang down a bit in the front of the windshield to mount a couple of lights. I have a good picture in my head but curious what you guys might have.

do it yourself

It will be homebuilt...just wondering if anybody has done it before! Looking for kind of a mix between a prerunner light bar that mounts on the a-pillar and hangs over the windshield and then a low profile roof rack. Something a little different!

im planning on the same thing, also have an idea in my head but would like to see some other peoples...

Kinda thinking of starting with a light bar something similar to this one. Maybe with the Hella 500's, it could be even a little more low profile.

I wouldn't put lights up there though, overhead lights tend to hide shadows in the road, making it harder to see divots, potholes or other undulations in the road. Having them on the grille like on mine I find works a lot better for visibility (you don't get any glare off the hood either).

Looking good Junkie...Im gonna have to go with the roof since I dont have many options for my front bumper and work well on the roof of my buggy.

Excuse my photochop skills and a 5 year old pic of my rig...but this is the idea. roofrack/lightbar/side window tree slider!

This for the Bronc II? On Ebay you can buy a really nice Yakima roof rack (SST for the ealry Rangers and Bronco II's) Then... add what you want to it. This is cheaper and will fit right the first time. Build you own roof backet to fit the Yakima rack.

Here is my set up: This might be a large photo

That looks nice but is not my style...my rig is all home built. Not to mention I want to add some window protection. Looks like only the Landrover guys have what I am looking for so far. I guess I will have a one of a kind rack.

Shay, I'd just build an exo-cage like Zabeards ranger and build the rack into it. Your gonna need some structure to hold up to tree's and hold the weight and you may end up tearing the roof skin off or ripping the roof rack off if you lean it into a tree hard.

This is what I have planned for my truck, not a full back half but I may do bed-skins or maybe just a tube bed....

:yahoo: junkie that thing is SHWEET! thats exactly what i had in my head for my ranger.:icon_thumby: how sturdy is that thing and how did you mount it? just awesome!

Sturdy enough for the spare tire, two jerry cans and a cooler (though I would never wheel a good trail with that much weight up there... notice it's empty in that pic.. It got the most use when I hauled my ATV around.
It's attached to the rollbar.

When gas prices shot up over $3.00 a gallon for the first time some years back, I ended up taking the rack off. The 1-2 MPG penalty from wind drag was getting to be expensive.
