Largest tire you can put on a 2019 Ford Ranger without a lift

Looking to give your 2019 Ford a ranger more aggressive look with a new set of tires?

I put Cooper Discoverer STT PRO 265/70/17 mud terrains on this 2019 Ford Ranger FX4. Stock height - no lift. No rubbing! And yes, I turned the wheel back and forth to check clearance.

Stock: 265/65/17 (30.40x10.40x17)

Coopers: 265/70/17 (31.93x10.70x17)

The new tires are 1.53-inches taller than stock, so the truck picked up 3/4" of ground clearance.

In the next (2) photos, you can see that there is still room between the tires and the crash bars (the rectangular bars that extend out from the frame in front and behind the tire)

Have you checked your speedometer to see how much that throws off the real speed of the truck?

Since Ford and most manufacturers set their speedometer readings to be high compared to actual speed being traveled. The speedometer is probably reading more accurately now than before. Ford tends to set theirs 2 mph fast. It would be nice to see what a GPS is showing for speed compared to the speedometer. Before and after the tire change.

FWIW: I checked my 2019 Ranger with our Garmin GPS... it's accurate, no deviation whatsoever.

Interesting to know. The speedometer inaccuracy things is a generalization and I imagine it varies from model to model.

I can’t even remember where I read the article in the subject. Probably a car magazine but I wouldn’t put it past Consumer Reports either.

The general premise behind it is that if the speedometer is reading a bit fast, there is less chance of a person getting busted for speeding, ergo less chance of a customer going after the vehicle manufacturer over an inaccuracy. Speedometers are required to meet a certain accuracy but there is an allowable +/- tolerance. Manufacturers tend to make their speedometers read a little fast as a result.

That truck looks great! I noticed you bought five tires - does that Cooper fit onto the spare wheel, or did you need to source a wheel for the spare? Any troubles getting it to fit up there under the box?

I ordered these tires today! Going to pair it with a 2.5" level lift and get it all installed probably in March. Really excited! I only ordered 4 since I'm unsure about the spare fitting in there.
